After breakfast at your hotel, drive towards Amman Downtown to spend an enjoyable guided tour of downtown Amman, the capital of Jordan, visiting monuments, landmarks, and museums. You'll see the Archaeological Museum, the Citadel, and the Amphitheatre (3 hr. tour).
Head to explore Jerash, the "Pompeii of the East" which houses some of the best preserved Roman ruins, rivalling the ones in Rome. Spend most of the day wandering the Cardo—its spectacular colonnaded street—and admiring the South Theatre, Temple of Zeus, Hadrian's Arch, the Artemis Temple, and the Nymphaeum. The city's 14 churches date back to the Byzantine era and are filled with fine mosaics.
Not too far away is the only Arabic castle in Jordan, Ajloun. It is perched on a hilltop and has fantastic views of the surrounding countryside. Originally constructed in 1184 AD, it was destroyed and rebuilt over the centuries following numerous wars and earthquakes.
On this day after breakfast, proceed towards Madaba, where you visit the famous 6th-century Byzantine mosaic map of Jerusalem and the Holy Land inside the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George.
Then transfer to Mount Nebo, the place where Prophet Moses had gazed at the Promised Land and where believed to be his burial ground. You will visit the old monastery and overlook the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and parts of the Holy Land.
Head towards Kerak, former cross fortress still surrounded by the fortifications of the old city, Kerak, rises to 900 meters above sea level. Today this city of a population of about 170 000 people still presents various restored Ottoman buildings from the 19th century and offers many restaurants, hotels and other services.
Proceed towards the South to visit Petra, the home of Nabataea’s The World Wonder.
After breakfast at your hotel, start today’s tour of Petra, the biggest attraction in Jordan. Petra was first established around the 6th century B.C. by the Nabateans, a nomadic tribe who settled in the area and laid the foundations of a commercial empire that extended up to Syria. Begin the trip to the canyon, the so-called Siq, and then to the most beautiful monument: The Treasury. Among other monuments, you will see the Street of Facades, the Royal Tombs, and Pharaoh’s Castle.
Proceed to Wadi Rum, also known as the "Valley of the Moon". Meet the Bedouins of the desert who have preserved their traditional way of life.
Head to the lowest point on earth the Dead Sea and enjoy the salty sea and the healing mud.
