NOTE: Please understand that Taroko Gorge has been damaged by a severe earthquake, and the park will be closed for six months. However, we will replace the other attractions in Hualien to ensure you have the best memories in Taiwan.
Along the way you’ll experience awe-inspiring natural wonders (including Taroko Gorge and the East Rift Valley), traveling through the heartland of Taiwan’s indigenous cultures. You’ll have plenty of opportunities for leisure and outdoor activities including hiking, boating, bicycling, and even hot-air ballooning. In between the bucolic splendor, we’ll also make time to explore Hualien and Taitung, two of Eastern Taiwan's largest cities, each boasting its own unique cultural caches. Though the route is similar to our standard Eastern Beauty Tour, our Premium tour package offers five-star accommodations, exquisitely prepared meals in some of eastern Taiwan’s best restaurants and opportunities for adventure not available on our standard tour.
The exact pick-up time and tour guide’s contact number will be advised two days before tour departure. Pick-up and drop-off from and to your accommodation in Taipei.
After meeting the group in Taipei, we’ll head down the magnificent east coast to Hualien county, where we’ll visit a beautiful pebble-strewn beach with famously clear blue waters.
Spend a lovely afternoon at Liyu Lake, the largest inland lake in Hualien. You can cycle or hike around the lake, fully enjoy the relaxing time here.
After checking into the hotel, our friendly guide will take you to spend the evening eating and watching street performances at the Dongdamen night market. (at guest's expense)
On day two we’ll head south down the coast, making many stops along the way to check out the regions' astonishingly varied coastal terrain. We’ll stop to visit the Baxian, or “eight deities” caves, known both for their geological features and religious iconography. For lunch, we’ll feast on fresh seafood on the coast before heading to Three Immortals Bridge, whose long, "8 arched-bridge" connects the rocky coast with a neighboring island. In the afternoon we’ll visit the town of Dulan, known for its tribal artists, surfing scene and laid-back vibe, before a quick stop at the Sugar Factory.
On the third day, guests will have the option of cycling or being driven around the tea farms and traditional Longtien village nestled in the rift valley, one of the loveliest stretches of country in Taiwan. For lunch, we will dine at Luminous Hotel's traditional farm-to-table, organic Japanese restaurant. In the afternoon, we’ll explore Taitung’s Seashore and Forest Parks before enjoying a picturesque dinner at a semi-enclosed restaurant with views of the surrounding countryside. After dinner, schedule a massage at the Luminous spa, soak in their hot springs, or simply enjoy the spa.
After a night of beauty sleep at the Luminous, you’ll be offered the option of seeing the entire Rift valley from the basket of a hot air balloon. Afterwards, a guided hike or bike ride around the bucolic East Rift valley before heading to lunch at a unique local eatery. After lunch, we’ll head north through the valley, stopping at the Tropic of Cancer marker before heading into Taroko Gorge. After dinner at the Taroko Silks Hotel, you’ll spend the rest of the evening taking advantage of the spa, rooftop pool & other entertainment facilities at this world class hotel.
On our tour’s final day we’ll start slowly, allowing guests an hour or so after breakfast to continue to enjoy the facilities at the Taroko Silk before heading out to tour the gorge itself. We’ll spend the rest of the morning visiting the temples and shrines of the gorge, and, weather permitting, taking a hike to the Baiyang waterfall. After lunch we’ll head back towards the coast through the gorge and continue north up Taiwan’s magnificent east coast, stopping for a leisurely afternoon coffee or tea and some homemade desert in the city of Yilan.
