Samburu Game Reserve is situated in the hot and arid fringes of Kenya’s vast Northern Frontier District. The area is home to the Samburu tribe, pastoral relatives of the Masai. Samburu Reserve as a safari destination has rugged and dramatic landscape; the Owasso Nyiro River runs along the southern boundary dividing Samburu Game Reserve and is home to crocodile and hippo with the many animals visiting to drink during the heat of the day.

Samburu Game Reserve is famous for the leopards residing in it; it's ranked as the place with the highest chance of spotting them in Kenya.

    Nairobi to Samburu National Reserve

    Equator Marker

    Pick up from your hotel or airport at 6:30 am and depart to Samburu National Reserve located in the Northern Kenya, drive for 2 and half hours to arrive Nanyuki town at 9:30am. Here you will have a stop over at the equator crossing. This is an imaginary line that divides the earth into 2 hemispheres. north and south. There is a big sign where you will be able to take a photo saying you are now crossing the equator. On a clear day, there is a high chance of seeing mount Kenya(highest mountain in Kenya)

    From there you will proceed for another 2 hours where you will now be entering the gate arriving in time for lunch and check in. Later proceed for an afternoon game viewing in the reserve

    Morning and Evening game drive in Samburu

    Early morning game drive in the reserve. Later, return to the camp for breakfast. Rest of the mid-morning at relaxation. After lunch, proceed for an afternoon game drive in the reserve. Samburu is famous for its truly wild semi-arid landscape, and the large concentration of wild animals and bird-life. Together with the adjoining Shaba and Buffalo Springs national reserves, Samburu is popular for hosting the rare Northern-Kenya animal species (Gerenuk, Reticulated Giraffe, Grevy's zebra, Beisa Oryx and Somali Ostrich) which are not found in the other popular parks and reserves in Kenya. It is also home to all the African big cats (lion, cheetah and leopard), alongside other big game including elephants, buffaloes, warthogs, hippos, impala, water-buck and many others.
