The Pyramids of Giza are the only one of the seven ancient wonders still remaining to this day. It is believed that they were built to serve as an eternal resting place of the pharaohs. The oldest and largest of the three pyramids was build on demand of Khufu or named also Cheops. The middle sized pyramid was built by Khafre or also called Chefre, the son of Khufu. And the third and smallest one was built by Menkaure alias Mycerinus, the grandson of Khufu and son of Khafre. Despite the fact that throughout the millennia ancient civilizations built incredible structures across the planet, the Pyramids of Giza outshine nearly all of them.
Next on the agenda is the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities that is housing the most valuable collections of artifacts and antiquities of its kind. The more than 100.000 items in the museum include some 1.700 artifacts from the tomb of Tutankhamun, including the solid golden mask that covered the pharaoh’s head. Other treasures to be found at the museum are reliefs, sarcophagi, papyri, funerary art and the content of various tombs but also jewelry, and ornaments of all kinds. Sculptures and statues are also to be found at the museum. An entire hall is dedicated to the royal mummies of 11 kings and queens.
