    Patahuasi

    Start your adventure early with a convenient hotel pickup in Arequipa and embark on a scenic drive to the stunning Colca Valley, one of southern Peru’s most iconic destinations. Before leaving the city, we’ll make a short stop to gather any last-minute supplies for the trip. The first leg of the drive takes approximately two hours, offering breathtaking views of the highlands, traditional villages, and rugged Andean landscapes. Along the route, we’ll make strategic stops at scenic viewpoints. Your first stop is Patahuasi, a charming village located within the protected Pampa Canahuas National Reserve. This area is perfect for spotting native Andean birds and camelids such as llamas and alpacas, providing excellent photo opportunities and a close-up experience with Peru’s natural wildlife. Continue to the Mirador de los Volcanes, the highest point of the route at 4,910 meters (16,109 ft), offering views of the volcanoes including Misti, Chachani, Pichu Pichu, Sabancaya, and Ampato.

    Chivay

    Around midday, we arrive in Chivay, the main town of the Colca Valley, with free time for lunch at family-owned local restaurants, supporting community-based tourism. Later, you will enjoy a hands-on cultural experience in the Arequipa region, participating in traditional agricultural work and the preparation of traditional chicha alongside local families, offering an authentic insight into Andean customs and daily life. You will spend the night in Chivay at the hotel of your choice. As evenings can be cold, warm clothing is recommended. In the afternoon, you may optionally visit the La Calera Hot Springs, known for their mineral-rich waters, ideal for relaxation and muscle relief. Please remember to bring swimwear if you plan to visit. Guests who prefer not to visit the hot springs can enjoy free time to rest or explore Chivay, including the Main Square area with local cafés and dinner options.

    Colca - mirador cruz del Condor - arequipa

    Mirador Cruz del Condor

    After breakfast at the hotel, we begin our journey to the Colca Canyon, one of the deepest canyons in the world. Your first stop is the village of Yanque, where you may witness the traditional Arequipa dance “Wititi,” performed by local residents. We then continue to the most famous viewpoint in the valley, Cruz del Condor, the best place to observe the majestic Andean condor, considered the largest flying bird in the world. This unforgettable experience offers excellent photo opportunities while your guide shares insights about the canyon’s wildlife and geography. On the way back to Chivay, we make a final stop at the Maca Viewpoint for panoramic views of the landscape. Around midday, we return to Chivay for lunch. In the afternoon, we depart for Puno on a scenic drive of approximately 6 hours, with stops along the way, including Patahuasi and the beautiful Lagunillas Lagoon, known for its high-altitude landscapes and wildlife. Arrival in Puno is around 9:00 p.m.
