The Giraffe Centre was established in 1979 by the late Jock Leslie-Melville, a Kenyan of British descent, and his American-born wife, Betty Leslie-Melville. It is a project of the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife (A.F.E.W. Kenya), a Kenyan non-profit organization. The centre was created in response to the alarming decline of the Rothschild’s giraffe, a rare subspecies found only in the grasslands of East Africa. Its primary mission is to educate Kenyan school children and youth about the country's wildlife and environment, while also offering both local and international visitors a unique opportunity to come into close contact with giraffes. The entry fee is USD 15, payable only by credit card or M-Pesa.
The Karen Blixen Museum, located about 10 km outside Nairobi at the foot of the Ngong Hills, is the former home of Danish author Karen Blixen, best known for her memoir Out of Africa, which recounts her life on the estate. The museum offers a glimpse into colonial-era Kenya and Blixen’s experiences in the early 20th century. The entry fee is USD 12, payable by credit card or M-Pesa.
