  Sightseeing the neighbourhood. In the shadow of the Acropolis and its ancestral temples, at the foot of the hill, is Plaka, a neighborhood with a rustic touch and narrow cobbled streets full of tiny shops that sell jewelry, clothing and local ceramics. Family-run cafes and taverns are open late and the Cine Paris shows classic films outdoors. A short distance away, the whitewashed houses of the Anafiotika neighborhood give the small enclave a certain air of a Greek island.

Monastiraki is a lively area famous for its iconic landmarks such as the ruins of Hadrian's Library, the ancient Agora, and the rebuilt Stoa of Attalus, with a museum displaying Athenian artifacts. Artisan soaps, handmade sandals and souvenir T-shirts are sold in the colorful stalls of the Monastiraki flea market.
