    Dam Square is a major public square in the city of Amsterdam, Netherlands. It is situated on Damrak, the canal from Amsterdam Centraal Station to Muntplein square and the Amstel river. The Dam was originally a dam in the river Amstel and it was used to produce electricity. The name derives from this use. The dam has been replaced by a stone embankment that serves as a discharge point for water from the Zuiderzee (nowadays called IJ).

    Royal Palace Amsterdam

    The Royal Palace of Amsterdam is a beautiful building that has housed the Dutch royal family since 1808. The palace is now open to the public, and visitors can get a glimpse of the opulence and grandeur of this royal residence. The Royal Palace was built in 1747 by King Louis Bonaparte, brother to King Louis XVI. It was originally used as an administrative building for the Dutch East India Company, but it soon became home to the Dutch royalty. The palace was renovated in 1808 after Napoleon's defeat when it became the residence for King Louis I and his wife Amalia of Nassau-Weilburg. The palace remained in use as a royal residence until Queen Wilhelmina moved out in 1898. It then served as headquarters for both military and civilian authorities during war.
