We will see the most beautiful churches in Ohrid, called “the Balkan Jerusalem”, for a good reason. We will climb up on top of the hill, to the “Samoil Fortress”, and take photos and admire the breath-taking lake views.
St. Clement of Ohrid City Square, next to the monument of Saint Clement
The portraits of the six Roman popes are painted inside the church, which reflects the relations between the Eastern and the Western church before the schism in 1054. The bare-foot Christ as well as the cycle of the Forty Martyrs of Sebaste, are some of the rarities that make the gallery of “St. Sophia” unique gallery of paintings. Its magnificent architecture is one of the most beautiful buildings in the Byzantine architecture in general.
From the 1st century BC.
With the unique frescoes from the 13th century.
The distinctive white house from the 19 century, was actually home to the well know Ohrid family Robevi. The family gave up the hose to the town to turn it into a museum. The museum has a few small collections: the ethnographic room, the golden collection, the town room, and a few others.
We will also visit the complex of Pantheleymon church, built by St. Clement of Ohrid. We will climb up on top of the hill and visit the Samoil fortress, from where you can take beautiful photos or just admire the lake view.
The last site we will visit for today is the 13th century church, the Church of “St. John the Evangelist” (Kaneo). Here we can have lunch in a restaurant on the shore. The return to the center of Ohrid can be arranged by small boats.
