  Le Morne

  Le Morne Brabant hiking trail invites nature lovers and adventurers for an exciting hiking experience in the southernmost tip of the island. The hike can last between three to four hours, where you will be guided by professionals with EFR/WFA certification. The 6 km hiking trail starts in the morning. The base of the hiking trail is generally flat and wide. Sign boards make it easy to locate paths, some of which are mostly shaded and not too physically demanding. Access to the second part of the mountain is only accessible through authorized guides. This hiking excursion will be supervised by experienced and professional guides in Mauritius. During the hike, the guide will share extensive knowledge about the reserve and its surrounding areas. The trip will take you around some of the most beautiful places in Mauritius and you will get to learn more about the fauna and flora and what’s being done towards its preservation, making this a unique and enriching experience.

  Le Morne

  Deep into the woods, you may encounter the exquisite sea bird, Paille en Queue, and indigenous plant species that will captivate your attention. As you advance, you will find yourself in the dry and rough terrain of the mountain, which can be quite challenging. The heat will elevate and thus it is recommended to take a sun hat or cap and water with you. It is also important that you are well-equipped with sunscreen and good trekking shoes due to the uneven tracks. As you progress, you will find a gigantic, basalt rock peak dotted with caves which once harbored runaway slaves. You will have to climb a rocky hill with equipment provided by the guides which can be quite a challenging experience. As you gradually move to the summit you can easily spot the huge metal cross which marks the highest accessible point. Take this chance to marvel at the absolutely stunning views of Ile aux Benitiers, Le Morne beach, and the spectacular surrounding areas.

  Macchabée Viewpoint is one of the most spectacular vantage points in Black River Gorges National Park, offering sweeping views over Mauritius’ largest protected forest. Located in the island’s southwestern highlands, this viewpoint overlooks dense green valleys and dramatic ridges. It is a paradise for nature lovers, birdwatchers, and hikers, as the area is home to several endemic species, including the pink pigeon, echo parakeet, and Mauritian kestrel.   Alexandra Falls

  If you love waterfalls as much as we do, this is a “not-to-be-missed”! Alexandra Falls is hidden in the deep jungle of the Black River Gorges National Park and is something out of a movie scene ! Strolling around this wondrously imaginative setting, you’ll find it hard to believe you’re on planet Earth! The allure of falling water; surrounded by the lush greenery, to the sounds of local bird species and other creatures are perfect continual motions that drive us as human to mentally relax at the sight of Alexandra Falls. The surroundings of the waterfalls depict a real jungle book and promise tranquility and peacefulness while you enjoy one of the best places to see in Mauritius. Alexandra Falls is accessible on your route to Plaine Champagne (ideal for fruit picking) and heading to Grand Bassin. It is an excellent addition to your day trip at those two locations and passing through other natural wonders along Chamarel.

  Grand Bassin

  Grand Bassin, located deep in the heart of Mauritius , is one of the island’s most sacred and serene sites. Situated about 6 km southeast of Mare aux Vacoas, this natural crater lake lies 550 meters above sea level in a secluded mountain area, surrounded by lush greenery. Known as Ganga Talao, it holds immense spiritual significance for Mauritians of the Hindu faith, who regard it as a holy lake connected to the sacred waters of the Ganges River in India. Every year, during the Maha Shivaratri festival, thousands of pilgrims walk long distances carrying decorated kanwars to honor Lord Shiva in a moving display of devotion. Around the lake stands a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, along with shrines to other deities such as Hanuman and Lakshmi, and the towering statue of Lord Shiva welcomes visitors. Grand Bassin is not only a place of worship but also a symbol of unity, culture, and peace, offering both pilgrims and tourists a profound spiritual experience in Mauritius.
