Upon arrival at the Amazon Garden Lodge, guests are warmly welcomed with a refreshing seasonal fruit beverage. A guide will provide essential information for the stay, hand over bungalow keys and security safe details, followed by lunch and some leisure time before the first excursion.
At 3:30 pm, the adventure begins with an exploration of the Rainforest. The guide will introduce guests to tropical trees, medicinal plants, and the rich biodiversity within the 60-hectare area of the Amazon Garden Lodge. There will be a brief pause at a viewpoint to observe toucans and other birds, with the hike lasting about 2 to 3 hours.
After returning to the Lodge, guests can unwind by the pool, relax in hammocks on their bungalow terrace, enjoy an exotic cocktail at the bar, experience a soothing massage from qualified staff, shop for handcrafted rainforest souvenirs, or take in the stunning riverside sunset. At 7:00 pm, the evening's highlight is the “Caiman Safari”.
Wake up is at 5:30 am for coffee or tea, followed by an early start for Lake Sandoval at 6:00 am. Your guide will provide a breakfast snack for the journey. After a 20-minute you'll arrive at Lake Sandoval's landing stage. A 3 km hike through lush vegetation leads into the Tambopata National Reserve. Here, you can see giant trees, snakes, various monkeys (squirrel, howler, and capuchin), and birds like the Hoatzin, kingfishers, and snakebirds.
There's a break at a rest area equipped with hammocks, lavatories, and a bar, where you can have breakfast and relax before heading back to the landing stage and proceeding to Monkey Island. This island is home to about 5 species of wild monkeys that are accustomed to visitors. It’s crucial to follow the guide’s instructions closely while on the island. The group returns to the Lodge for lunch at 1:30 pm.
At 3:30 pm, you'll visit one of Amazon Garden Lodge's two lookout towers, 20 and 42 meters high, ideal for birdwatching and observing animals at that altitude, as well as enjoying a stunning sunset view. Guests can choose their preferred activities for the rest of the afternoon, including swimming, massages, refreshments at the bar, or shopping for souvenirs. Dinner is served at 8:00 pm.
Parrots and parakeets require a diet that includes clay rich in essential salts and minerals. This clay aids in metabolizing and neutralizing the toxins and acids found in their primary food sources - flowers, fruits, and seeds. As a result, these birds gather at salt licks, which are clay deposits located along the rivers and streams in the Madre de Dios region of the Amazon rainforest, every morning.
Around 7:00 am, after observing this natural phenomenon, we'll return to the lodge for breakfast.
Following our meal, we'll head back to Puerto Maldonado and ensure your safe arrival at either the Airport or Bus Terminal.
