  Continue along Ursulinengasse towards the Stadtpfarrkirche St. Egid, one of the most prominent churches in Klagenfurt's historic centre. The church's present Baroque appearance dates largely from the late 17th century, while its impressive Stadtpfarrturm was completed in 1709. Rising approximately 90 metres above the Old Town, the tower is one of Klagenfurt's most recognisable landmarks.

  Altes Rathaus, Alter Platz

  Continue into Alter Platz, one of the most atmospheric squares in central Klagenfurt. Surrounded by historic façades, cafés and shops, the square illustrates the Renaissance character that continues to define the city centre. Klagenfurt is particularly notable for its extensive pedestrianised Old Town, which allows you to explore its historic streets at a relaxed pace. Documented as early as 1489, the building is particularly recognisable by the gilded goose emblem above its entrance. Its historic fabric and Renaissance architectural elements provide an excellent glimpse into the character of Klagenfurt before continuing towards the city's principal square.

  Neuer Platz

  Walk towards Neuer Platz, the central square and one of the most important landmarks of Klagenfurt. At its centre stands the magnificent Lindwurmbrunnen, depicting the legendary dragon-like creature that has become the city's symbol and heraldic animal. The Renaissance monument was created between 1583 and 1593 from a single block of local chlorite schist. The figure of Hercules, representing the legendary slayer of the Lindwurm, was added in 1636 together with the fountain basin and decorative wrought-iron grille. Take time here to hear the fascinating legend behind the creature and admire one of the city's most photographed monuments.

  Continue through the pedestrianised streets towards the Wörtherseemandl, a charming fountain depicting a legendary figure associated with the creation of Lake Wörthersee. According to local legend, the figure opened a barrel and released a great flood that transformed the surrounding landscape into the lake. The fountain adds a distinctly local element to the tour and introduces you to the legends and folklore that form an important part of Klagenfurt's identity.
