1. Oslo to Myrdal by Train Begin your journey with one of Norway’s most scenic railway routes. Departing from Oslo in the morning, you can enjoy breakfast onboard while watching the landscape transform from urban surroundings to forests, mountain valleys, rivers, and high-altitude plateaus. The route crosses some of Southern Norway’s most spectacular natural scenery, offering excellent opportunities for sightseeing from the comfort of your seat.
2. Myrdal to Flåm on the Flåm Railway Board the world-famous Flåm Railway, one of the steepest standard-gauge railway lines in the world. This historic train journey descends through dramatic mountain landscapes, passing deep ravines, waterfalls, and charming mountain farms. A highlight is the stop at the impressive Kjosfossen Waterfall, where passengers can step outside to admire the powerful cascade and take photos.
3. Flåm to Gudvangen by Shuttle Bus After spending half an hour in Flåm, travel through the breathtaking Aurland Valley before entering the Lærdal Tunnel, the world's longest road tunnel at 24.5 km. Opened in 2000, this engineering masterpiece connects communities that were once isolated by mountains and harsh winter conditions. The comfortable transfer offers a fascinating contrast between Norway's rugged nature and modern infrastructure.
4. Nærøyfjord Cruise: Gudvangen to Flåm Enjoy a spectacular 2-hour fjord cruise through the UNESCO-listed Nærøyfjord, one of the narrowest and most dramatic fjords in the world. Surrounded by towering mountains, cascading waterfalls, and picturesque villages, the cruise offers exceptional views of Norway’s untouched nature. Keep an eye out for seals, eagles, and traditional fjord farms perched high on the mountainsides.
5. Return Journey: Flåm to Oslo After free time in Flåm, return via the Flåm Railway to Myrdal and continue by train back to Oslo. This final leg provides another opportunity to enjoy the magnificent mountain scenery from a different perspective, bringing an unforgettable day of fjords, railways, and Norwegian landscapes to a relaxing close.
