These stops offer the perfect opportunity to support the local people at their small markets, as well as get to know them in their local environment. After a roadside lunch, we continue our journey through the the coast where we make a stop at the Zeila Shipwreck.
On arrival in Swakopmund we check in to our accommodation. Enjoy a chance to explore the town on foot before dinner.
This morning after breakfast we can join an optional activity such as the sand boarding which takes us into the coastal dune fields. We depart at dawn from camp to arrive at the park gate for sunrise. We drive down an ancient river bed surrounded by towering dunes to the 2x4 parking (around 55kms) and take a 4x4 shuttle into the Sossusvlei region. We explore this unique area on foot before heading into Dead Vlei with its large expanse of bleached cracked clay and skeletal camel thorn trees, contrasting with a backdrop of huge dunes with their ever-changing colours.
For those that have plenty of energy, climb up big daddy dune, the highest in the area for spectacular views over the Namib Desert
From Deadvlei, we make our way over to Sossusvlei where we explore this vlei before enjoying brunch.
As we drive back to our accommodation we will stop at the famous Dune 45 for photos.
We return to Sesriem and visit the nearby Sesriem Canyon, once a source of permanent water for the local wildlife. Climb down into the canyon and appreciate this small but interesting geological formation.
Early morning breakfast before heading to Solitaire where we jump onto an open vehicle and visit the local conservation project. Here they have a number of cheetah that are unable to be released for different reasons.
