Weather Alerts

yellow warning - cold - in effect

Feb 28, 06:20 PM - Mar 1, 10:20 AM
Severity: Moderate Urgency: Immediate

A multi-day episode of very cold wind chills continues. The coldest wind chill values will be between minus 50 and minus 55. Wind chills will moderate in the afternoon, but will be near minus 50 at night and in the morning in Yellowknife and the North Slave regions into the middle of next week. ### Extreme cold puts everyone at risk. Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter. Watch for cold related symptoms: shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to NTstorm@ec.gc.ca, call 1-800-239-0484 or post reports on X using #NTStorm.

Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill. If it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside.
