We had to move room as room we were given was carpeted and a little dark
There was running water all night and you couldn’t sit on toilet without banging knees on wall
That said the staff were very helpful and offered to show us other rooms the next day which were much better
Fine hotel. Near the cathedral and the nice bars and restaurants. Short walk to the harbour to take a boat to one of the islands. Also the shopping streets are nearby. Good staff and the possibility to eat at the hotel. Recommanded for short stay.
Nice hotel in Puno. Just stayed one night. Centrally located with walking access to bars and resturants. Cheap taxis allow easy access to the dock for lake Titicaca tours
Although the hotel is a little dark and tired, the location is good and the staff are amazingly helpful and kind in a genuine professional way. The beds are warm and comfortable with hot showers. There is a restaurant with a wide menu of French/Peruvian food.
A fairly basic hotel in a decent location. The reception areas are a bit nicer than the actual rooms which are a bit drab and dated. Fine for a night or two but probably wouldn’t want to stay for too long. Despite this the rooms are comfortable. The shower was fairly average. The annoying thing was the music being played in the corridors throughout the hotel which was the same song on repeat. This didn’t stop until about 10pm at night from what I remember. It was a bit irritating after a while. The staff were friendly and the breakfast was decent.
We came here for one night as part of our Intrepid tour of Peru. They were kind enough to have a heater going to warm the room up which was much appreciated. The shower was lovely and warm. The beds were comfortable and the staff were super friendly. It is an older hotel but fine for one night.
It is important to guest to get a hot shower, that they can adjust to their liking Looking at other reviews this has been an ongoing issue for years. The thump thump of the nearby night club means you can't get a restful sleep
I found the gloominess of this hotel depressing . I had a room which faced onto a wall and the curtains were permanently closed . The room was heaters but an old electric heater placed near soft furnishings ! The WiFi was awful and the receptionist admitted switching it off as it was overloaded !
The rooms had dark unclean carpets and the bathrooms seriously need updating .
I love character hotels but this needs bringing up to the 21st century .
An amazing hotel, builded in 1785 and reconstructed in 2012 keeping the flavor of very old times, having the feeling that you are going to see spanish invadors behind the walls, located at the center of Puno with very friendly employees.Must!!
Had a delicious meal in The Bistro, lovely attentive waiter, very friendly, complimentary wine, lit the fire for us as it was a chilly evening. Had 2 of the trout dishes and a tenderloin steak which were all cooked to perfection.
My bed was not a single but not a double, so good size. Heaps of blankets to keep me warm. There was a safe and extra pillows and blankets for me. TV was good but no channels that I could understand. Shower was basic but took a while for the hot water to come through.
The foyer downstairs has tea - yep tea! First place where there was a welcoming place for people to gather - and gather we did.
Staff were excellent and when the wifi didn't work so well, they sussed it out and got it working for all of us. Worked best in the foyer though.
Put my laundry in and for around 10 soles everything was delivered clean and dry.
Breakfast was next door at Delirium and was lovely.
Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Not good parking.
The best thing I can say is that the staff is very nice and helpful. The hotel has seen better days. The rooms are outdated. The location is noisy. We stayed with our kids and they were unhappy with the place.
war nur kurz da, optisch alles sehr schön...
The breakfast was generous and very tasty. The room and bathroom, especially, were roomy with plenty of hot water. The staff were very helpful in printing our boarding passes. The bed was softer than we have become accustomed to during our travels in Peru, but we slept well (probably helped by the altitude!). The surroundings were beautiful wood, and the central area with many plants was very cheery. The location was close to Plaza and restaurants.
This was a last minute booking when we decided to spent a night in Puno instead of the second one at Uros. This was by far the worst place we stayed during the entire holiday in Peru. We wanted to stay in Puno as we were already hiking and staying at homestays for the number of nights do we wanted a bit of comfort. We chose this hotel based on a great review in the Lonely Planet, but it was a massive let down. The rooms are really old and have a horrible red carpet on the floor. The bathroom had mounded shower curtain and the drain was blocked in the the shower tub. The breakfast was a joke with a horrible cheap ingredients which was so different to what we got everywhere else in Peru. The hotel is super cold and receptionists are wearing coats and scarves to keep them warm. The charge for this hotel is 60 USD which seems extortionate for what you get.
We stayed at the hotel during our Intrepid tour the night before going on the lake and the home stay.
The hotel is located in a busy area within walking distance of bars and restaurants in Puno.
The hotel is dated but the lobby etc are fine if you know what to expect, and are not too keen on modern design!
Not many facilities available, and the breakfast was basic (we haven't tried the restaurant for lunch or dinner).
We had a "suite" which had a room with a couple of sofas and a fireplace, a bedroom and an ensuite with a jacuzzi (!). It was fairy cold and required the mobile heater to be on all night. No noise insulation to speak of, so you can hear the local life very well during your sleep. Bed was ok.
In summary:
Pros: ok bed (versus other accommodation on this trip)
Cons: noisy, dated
Casona Colon Inn is a perfect place to stay in Puno: friendly staff, central place in town not too far from Plaza de Armas and Lima street with lots of bars and restaurants. The breakfast is well in line with the Peruvian kind of breakfast... and last but not least they have the famous Belgian beer Duvel... :-)
We could leave our bags there without any problem for the 2 days we went out for a tour on the lake.
To recommend.
