Almost nothing
Amari Dhaka has the potential to deliver a good stay experience. It feels like a compact five-star hotel in the Gulshan area, which is a prime location.
The room itself was clean, tidy, and spacious, and overall maintenance standards were good. Housekeeping did a solid job in keeping the room comfortable. The breakfast was also enjoyable, with good taste and a decent variety of menu options.
I recently stayed at Amari Dhaka, and unfortunately, the experience fell far below expectations—particularly in terms of guest service and professionalism.
What stood out most was a noticeable lack of proper guest service skills, which seemed to stem from a judgmental attitude toward guests based on appearance. It genuinely felt like there was a difference in how local and foreign guests are perceived and treated, which is deeply disappointing for a hotel of this standard.
The check-in experience was especially frustrating. While the GSA was present, the duty manager handled the situation in a very unprofessional manner. I had requested a twin room, and despite showing them their own advertised online pricing—where deluxe and twin rooms were listed at the same rate—the manager insisted on charging extra. His reasoning kept changing, from claiming it was a different room type, to saying OTA and in-house prices differ, and then stating that room sizes were different.
The situation escalated unnecessarily, with the manager persistently pushing for additional charges until I had to strongly object. What made matters worse was that I had called the hotel two hours prior to arrival to confirm my booking details, and I was clearly told everything was in order. Even after showing my call log, the manager chose to call his staff in front of me to “verify” the conversation, only for the staff member to deny it—putting me in an embarrassing position and seemingly attempting to cover up internal miscommunication.
The entire experience felt like an attempt to extract extra money rather than provide genuine hospitality. However, once I made it clear that I understand hotel operations and have industry experience myself, the attitude shifted quickly—something that should not be necessary for any guest to receive fair treatment.
Overall, this was a disappointing stay due to poor handling, lack of accountability, and unprofessional conduct.
