Stayed 1 night - arrived in Puno on a very hot overnight bus from Cusco so pretty tired - was able to get our room at 09:00 so could have a shower and a nap.
Room basic but clean, and wifi absolutely fine. Breakfast basic but bread certainly fresh - had to wait for it to arrive from the baker.
Helpful front desk.
This hotel was average. The rooms are ok but they were very spacious in comparison to many other places I stay while in Peru! Location seemed to be food although the cab drivers didn't know where it was or where the restaurant was we wanted to go to which was incredibly disappointing! Free breakfast was probably the most basic we saw in Peru too but it was fine! Different than other places in Peru. Average price and worth it for more budget travellers!
The hotel is REALLY average. The rooms are more spacious then in the rest of the country where I stayed. Its quite clean. There is a computer in the "lobby" and free wifi in the establishment.
I went there in November and it was quite cold in there. It is also CHEAP so recommendable if you are on the budget.
When you go out turn left and then left again you will find a street full of restaurants, so you can have a breakfast, lunch or dinner anytime anywhere you want.
The price was a bargain, the rooms have plenty of space, continental breakfast was good, the staff helped us plan some activities and was nice enough to store our luggage. The hotel manager was very friendly and made a reservation for us in Arequipa! Wifi and TV signals were poor, but they did have a guest computer with internet.
We did not initially choose this hotell. On our bus, tour peru, a guy approached us and said we shoudl stay here w everything included...and that this has a better location closer to the center of town than our other hotel. So we looked at the rooms and agreed.
this hotel is relatively warmer even wo heating. we paid 25 soles per person for a triple in (june 2013). However, 2 issues. 1. he told us transfer from the train station to the hostel is free...(they took the 5 soles for it out of our 25 each cut). Then they booked us a uros and ate...(sp?) trip from 7 am to 5 30pm trip for 40 soles per person. If you take a taxi directly, (3-5 soles) and ask for a tour (25 soles) per person, its cheaper. The showers were difficult to manage. iT was either too cold or scalding...after a lot of trying 30 minute shower i finally figured out a happy medium...which I think i only got lucky in controlling. Finally, the internet only SEMI works in the rooms. IT almost ONLY works in the hallways
Then this morning, we woke up to them telling us, oh, the guy who brought you here said that breakfast is not included. The guy blatantly lied and i had to fight our way to some breakfast.
Overall, the hotel owners are nice -- they provided us with extra pillows and blankets--- however, the guy at station lies and tried to pull the old we offer everything.... except routine.
The place was a bargain at about 60 soles per room. It was clean and quiet. Water was boiling hot to the point I was worried I would burn myself.. Most of the staff were lovely and helpful but there was a grumpy man as well, who also, as we realized later, charged us at least 3 times more for the laundry. Overall, you get what you pay for. It's really ok for that amount.
It better than expected. Good thing is that it is not located near plaza or lima street where street is crowded and full no noise. It is quiet place and plaza and cathedral and major street are walking distance. There is kitchen you can cook. Breakfast start at 7:00 AM. We had to leave hotel at 6: 40 and staff prepared breakfast at 6:00 for us. Room is big enough and clean.
Wi Fi is available only in public area, not room
As mentioned in other reviews it was the guy that worked the Copacabana / Puno bus that offered us the room. We negotiated a good price with him and got a free transfer from the bus to the hotel. Once there he goes into hard sell mode trying to push a tour of the islands and onward travel onto you. We didn't buy any of this so just listened and politely declined. I guess he's just earning a living but really when you arrive in a new town the last thing you should do is sign up for a tour from the first guy who offers it.
The hotel was fine. Clean room, decent bed, cable tv, private bathroom with hot shower. The wifi worked although dud go off a few times.
The location isn't the best. Maybe 7-8 mins walk to Plaza De Armas and Lima street but there are a load of places to eat nearby if you're happy eating Saltchi papas.
Allin all not bad.
The staff was very helpfull. Besides, you get a great room (tv, hot shower, nice wam beds) for a good price between the center and lake Titicaca. We didn´t use the breakfast service, but it´s an option.
Place is a dive list as follows
No hot water.
Poor wifi reception.
Breakfast was two rolls in a basket mind you for two people.
Dirty bathroom black mould growing on the bath mat.
Dirty sheets.
No heating, which is a nightmare as it's very cold.
Staff claim to be English speaking, yet don't understand a word.
Family lives in hotel rooms.
Rude staff.
Limit on showers even though there isn't any hot water to limit we were told 5min showers.
Place is a nightmare!!!! DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!!!!!!!
I had a pleasant stay for 2 nights, in spite of previous bad reports, I found beds comfortable, room clean, no noise to disturb my sleep, wi-fi worked, breakfast adequate and staff & owner very helpful. My big complaint was lack of heating throughout the hotel in winter months, and I froze at night!! There was also no hot water in the bathroom handbasin. I refused to take a shower due to the cold so cannot comment.
The only way you end up staying at this hostel is to be conned into it by the scam artist who works the copa cabana - Puno bus. Don't listen to him. He stole our bus tickets, charged us extra, outright lied to us about amenities and location. Please, please don't stay there.
If you stay in this hotel, chances are you stayed there because the scam-artist of a bus driver conned you into it.
DO NOT LISTEN TO HIM. The hostel may look nice at first glance, but the dude will SCREW YOU OVER. There is no hot water, no nearby restaurants, hidden costs left and right, the sheets are stained (probably from people just pooping out of frustration), and he'll probably also try to con you into getting a tour to the floating islands, which will be overpriced and underwhelming.
We had already bought bus tickets on a nice bus, and this scam artist took them and reissued us vouchers for a TERRIBLE LOCAL BUS with no bathroom and pooping babies for 10 hours to cusco. He is a scoundrel through and through.
May the America Inn be razed to the ground. It gives a bad name to Peru and America. If I ever go back, it will be to poop all over the lobby and then light it on fire.
Notice how the only reviews on this website are from people who were solicited into the hotel by the guy running it? He literally lurks on buses from Copacabana to Puno and lures you into staying at his hotel. Then he sends you on a crappy, overpriced tour, and in our case, stole our bus tickets and rebooked us on a terrible bus to Cusco that took 3 hours more and ruined our day. There's no internet, despite the fact that he promised us on the bus that there would be -- when we got there he told us we could go next door to a cafe and pay for internet -- and there was no hot water. No one should ever stay there. And to be honest, I don't think anyone does unless they're tricked into it by the dude who snatches them on the bus.
We arrived after a 6-hour bus trip from Arequipa to Puno and the only thing we wanted was a hot shower, but the hotel service told us it's not burning water, but instead it's hot.
Let me inform you that water wasn't hot at all, it freezes us!
I was travelling in a bus from Copacabana (Titicaca Lake's border in Bolivia) to Puno (Titicaca Lake's border in Peru) and one of the attendants in the bus offered me the possibility to stay at American Inn Puno. It was one of the best decisions I had made in that trip.
It was rainning the night that I arrived and they welcomed me really friendly at the counter. They gave me a very good discount since i was travelling alone and they gave me an excellent room. The beds are wide and tall, incredibly confortable.
Private bathroom, clean and comfortable, with hot water with an incredibly pressure 24 hous. My room had also TV with cable (which is not really common in budget acommodations).
At the reception were really helpful, they got me a bus ticket for the next night and they let me leave my backpack during the day. It was a refreshing experience before heading to Cusco.
I would recommend this hotel to my friends!!!
