Chinchero was a potato farming center, and they made, and still make, textiles; they were the best. When the conquistadors arrived, the people of Chinchero were the last to rebel against the Inca Mateo Pumacagua.
Moray was a key Inca agricultural laboratory, built with circular terraces in a natural geological fault that created microclimates to experiment with and adapt crops such as quinoa, kiwicha, potato, maca and corn, demonstrating their advanced agronomic knowledge and water management.
The Maras Salt Mines in the Sacred Valley of Cusco, Peru, have a history dating back to pre-Incan times (Wari culture, between 500-1100 AD). They utilize an underground saltwater spring to feed thousands of terraced pools created by local people, and are now a place of trade. They extract salt three times a year in different colors: pink, white, and brown.
Ollantaytambo is an "Inca town" in the Sacred Valley, built under the command of the Inca Pachacuti as a strategic entry and control center for Machu Picchu, the jungle, and a ceremonial site for the Sun God. A Temple of the Sun was built with giant stones; to this day, there is no explanation for how these polished granite stones were transported to the top.
Pisac was a very important place because it is home to the only Inca cemetery and mausoleums. You can also see the water fountains that were used to bathe the dead. Pisac was also an agricultural center, as evidenced by its terraced constructions adapted to the local geography.
