The short tour to Machu Picchu begins with an early pick-up from your hotel at 4 a.m. to catch the train from Ollantaytambo. The train follows the scenic route along the Urubamba River, arriving at Km 104, where our trek starts. We’ll first explore an Inca site before embarking on the Classic Inca Trail. Along the way, we'll enjoy stunning views of Machu Picchu, the Urubamba River, and various surrounding Inca sites. After three hours of hiking, we’ll reach the breathtaking Incan site of Wiñay Wayna, known for its intricate water fountains, temples, and agricultural terraces—an experience few get to witness. Here, you’ll enjoy a delicious lunch freshly prepared by the chefs at Alpaca Expeditions. From Wiñay Wayna, we’ll continue to the Sun Gate, where we’ll be greeted by the iconic landscape of Machu Picchu. After soaking in these unforgettable views, we’ll descend to Machu Picchu and take a bus down to Aguas Calientes.
Today is all about immersing yourself in the wonders of Machu Picchu. To maximize your experience, we recommend that each group enjoy an early breakfast before catching one of the first buses to the citadel, allowing you to stay ahead of the crowds. Your guide will then take you on a thorough tour of the breathtaking Machu Picchu Citadel, which will last about two hours. If you have secured tickets for Huayna Picchu ($75 each; advance booking necessary), you can embark on this additional hike after the guided tour. After the tour, your guide will wait for you in Aguas Calientes. Following lunch, you'll proceed to the train station to board your train back to Ollantaytambo. Once you arrive, our driver will be there to pick you up and take you back to Cusco, where you will be dropped off at your hotel.
