Day 1: Cusco – Huayopata (Family Farm) – Cusco
Pick-up: 5:00 AM from Cusco hotels, or 6:30 AM from Ollantaytambo/Urubamba. Around 8:00 AM, we'll make an optional stop at Abra Málaga for specialty coffee or hot chocolate at nearly 4,300 m.
By 9:30 AM we'll reach the farm and meet Julia and José. A family member will guide us through their diverse crops — coffee, cacao, coca, tea, and fruit trees — with tastings straight from the plant and a look at medicinal plants and cacao fruit.
At noon, we'll roast cacao and learn the steps to pure chocolate, followed by a home-style lunch (vegan/vegetarian options available on request).
At 2:00 PM, we'll taste our chocolate paired with local fruits and chili, plus a cup of 100% cacao hot chocolate, before heading back around 3:00 PM. We'll pass Ollantaytambo (train station drop-off available) around 6:00 PM, arriving in Cusco by 7:30 PM, traffic permitting.

We'll pick you up from the location you confirm in your reservation — this can be a hotel, an Airbnb, or any other type of accommodation.
If you're coming from a tour near Ollantaytambo, we recommend starting from there instead of Cusco. We can pick you up in that area, which is closer to our destination in Huayopata and will save you travel time.

Cocoa farm tour: Once at the farm, you will chat with the farmers to share your life experiences, followed by a locally prepared lunch. After lunch, the plantation tour will begin as one of the farmers will explain all the plants and fruits he has on the farm and will let you taste all the fruits he has available in this season. After the tour, you will experience yourself the process of making your own chocolate paste and hot chocolate in the traditional manner.

We will pass near the town of Ollantaytambo, guide and driver will take some local breakfast to go here. if you want, you can taste local drinks such as quinoa drink or Andean cereals too. price of snacks and extra drinks are not included.
