It is one of the most famous routes in Peru, which has as its starting point the city of Cusco (3,399 m.a.s.l.) then we will go to Soraypampa, from this place we will have the first views of the magnificent snowy Salkantay (6,270 m.a.s.l.), which belongs to the Cordillera del Vilcanota.

The tour has a duration of 4 days, this hike invites you to discover and enjoy a variety of climates from very cold to warm weather. Also throughout the journey, we will enjoy incredible landscapes, mountains, snow-capped mountains, rivers, lakes, wild animals, llamas, alpacas, and the dense vegetation that we will see in our walk through the jungle (Santa Teresa), finally the majestic Machu Picchu.

Itinerary

    Day 1

    Day 1: Cusco – Mollepata – Soraypampa - Salkantay Pass

    After picking everyone up from their respective places or hotels, we leave Cusco around 5:00 am to the town of Mollepata by car for 2 hours. Once in Mollepata, we stopped for a delicious breakfast. We also pay 10 soles entrance fee to the local municipality. Then we continue by car for 1 hour more to Soraypampa where we will meet the horsemen and horse that will carry all the luggage, food, and 7 kilos of each hiker's belongings. We start the hike uphill to Humantay Lake for 2 hours. When you arrive at the lake, you will have enough time to explore, and photograph the place and the guide will explain all the significance of the Humantay Lake. After a couple of hours at the lake, we start to descend for 2 hours to Salkantay pass Camp.

    Once you arrive at the camp, you will enjoy a delicious lunch prepared by the cooks after lunch, you basically have free time to explore the area to see the llamas or, if you wish, you can rest.

    Salkantay Pass - Wuayracmachay - Chaullay Camp

    The second day of the trek is the most difficult because it takes you up to 4630 m and 20 km of walking. The cooks will wake you up around 5:00 a.m. with a cup of hot coca tea, then you will have time to repack and prepare for the nutritious breakfast that is served around 5:45 a.m. Then it is time to start hiking to the highest point of the Salkantay trail, which is 4630 m, which takes 3 to 4 hours, all uphill at a slow and steady pace.

    Once you are at the highest point, you will have time to enjoy the mountains, and take pictures the guide will teach you about the mountain gods and you will also be part of the small Andean ritual for the Apus, the mountain gods. Then start walking for 2 hours to the lunch spot to rest and enjoy a delicious lunch. After continuing downhill for three more hours to the second camp, which is Chaullay. The camp is called Chaullay and is located at 2900m right at the beginning of the Peruvian Amazon area.

    Chaullay - Santa Teresa - Hidroeléctrica - Aguas Calientes

    On the third day, you will be in the jungle area. We wake you up around 6:00 a.m. with a cup of coca tea, then we offer you a delicious breakfast. Around 7:00 a.m., the hike to Sahuayaco beach begins for approximately 5 hours along the Santa Teresa Valley, which is formed by the Salkantay River.

    Aguas Calientes

    Along the valley, you have the opportunity to see plantations such as coffee, bananas, avocados, cocoa, passion fruit, and much more. After five hours of walking, you will arrive at La Playa Sahuayaco, from where you will take local transportation for one hour to Santa Teresa, where you will stop for lunch, then continue by car for 45 minutes more to Hidroeléctrica and then walk 3 hours more train tracks to the village of Aguas Calientes on the flat road. Then we take you to the hotel to shower and relax, in the evening around 7 o'clock.

    Machu Picchu - Cusco

    Machu Picchu

    On the last day of the tour, you will visit Machu Picchu. You need to get up around 4:00 AM. After having your breakfast, you start walking to the Puente Ruinas checkpoint for 30 minutes, which is open at 5:00 am, where you have to show your passport and Machu Picchu tickets. After passing the first checkpoint, you will go up all the stairs for 1 hour 30 minutes to the main gate of Machu Picchu to be there around 6:00 am. Once everyone is at the gate, enter Machu Picchu for the guided tour for 2.5 hours to learn all about The Lost City of the Incas. The time you will spend in Machu Picchu will depend on how you want to return to Cusco and it will also depend on whether you want to climb Machu Picchu Mountain or Huayna Picchu Mountain, which you need to book in advance.

    On the fourth day, you must return to Cusco after visiting Machu Picchu and we offer you 2 options to return to Cusco, you can do the TRAIN or BUS option.
