Visiting Machu Picchu by car is ideal for anyone with a sense of adventure and a newly recharged energy. What makes this tour truly special and unique is that you will be able to experience the amazing winding roads Peru and hike through through the Peruvian highlands and subtropical rainforest. You will be able to take in the natural Inca wonders on top of the Andean mountains and experience different microclimates: from Andean subtropical jungle humidity to Andean Mountains snow.
The hike will then lead to the town of Aguas Calientes where you will visit the historical sanctuary of Machu Picchu. Our experienced and local guides offer a route that is unknown to most visitors and only well-known to only a handful. The Machu Picchu by car itinerary is a route that is a more adventurous and affordable than the expensive Perurail train service.
Our pick ups are from well-known accommodations that have easy access for our transport team. Alternatively, we may arrange the night before at the briefing to meet out transport team at the agreed time at some other nearby and easy location. (For example: At our main Office, Ukukus Hostel, main plaza of Cusco etc.)

We start the day by picking you up from your hostel / hotel at approx 6:40 – 7:00am. We will drive for around 5 hours, crossing Chinchero, Urubamba, Ollantaytambo, Santa Maria, Santa Teresa and ending up at the Hydroelectric Power Station. On the drive you will be able to see clearly the white snow capped mountains of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. The extensive low vegetation hills, red clay hills and authentic villages of the Quechua region.
From Hydroelectric you will hike for 11km. This hike is a mostly flat walk beside the railway and beside the beautiful Vilcanota river. The hike from Hydroelectric to Aguas Calientes was the same trail used by the North American professor Hiram Bingham who rediscovered Machu Picchu after centuries of it being lost to the outside world! You will spend a night in Aguas Calientes and have the rest of the day to explore the town. There are plenty of shops, restaurants and hot springs to keep you busy before visiting the Inca wonder. Your tour guide will meet you at your hostel reception for any last details about your Machu Picchu visit.
You start walking up the stairs to Machu Picchu and which takes around 45-minutes, with almost 1,700 Inca steps. Hiking up to Machu Picchu takes 1.5 hours at a regular pace. We start walking at 4:00 am in the morning from Aguas Calientes to the first checkpoint located right at the base of Machu Picchu. The tour through the temples, houses, agricultural terraces, patios and every corner of Machu Picchu will leave you speechless. After the guided tour you will have your own free time to keep exploring the site, take more amazing pictures, or just enjoy the mystic calm of Machu Picchu. There are 2 free hikes each option ranging in difficulty and providing new perspectives of the tropical region surrounding the archaeological site. 1. Inca Bridge 2. Montaña Machu Picchu Note: Tickets for Huayna Picchu and Machu Picchu Mountain are limited and demand is high, especially during the peak season from April to October, when it’s less likely to rain. Advanced planning is a must during these months to reserve your spot for one of these hikes. Tickets for both Huayna Picchu and Machu Picchu Mountain can sell out up to 3 months in advance.
