This is the short version of the famous Inca Trail, for those who have less time available but do not want to miss out on this unique trek. The Incas built a very extensive network of almost 40,000 kilometers of hiking trails, to the far reaches of the vast empire, which stretched from Quito in Ecuador to Santiago in Chile and Mendoza in Argentina.

In the early morning, at around 7:30 a.m. we will pick you up from your hotel by bus. We will drive you to the train station to board the train that will take us to km.104 on the Cuzco – Machu Picchu railroad. This is the starting point of our hike, where we arrive at around 10:00 am. We start with visiting the Chachabamba archaeological complex (2150 m.a.s.l), which is located very close to the control point. Then, we start an uphill hike on a 8 km ascending path. After four hours, this path takes us to the archaeological complex of Wiñaywayna (2650 m.a.s.l). This is an impressive complex made up of an agricultural center with numerous terraces, a religious sector and an urban sector. On the way up we may enjoy magnificent views of the Urubamba River valley and the Choquesuysuy archaeological complex located on the other side of the river, and also of a beautiful waterfall located just a few minutes away from Wiñaywayna. We continue our hike and climb to Intipunku, or The Sun Gate. This will take an hour of hiking along a path of flat stones on the edges of cliffs in highland jungle. From this fabulous spot, we may contemplate the sacred Inca city of Machupicchu. From Intipunku, we descend to Machu Picchu, which we will not enter this day. After our first glimps of Machu Picchu we descend by bus to Aguas Calientes. After a tiring day, we can rest at our hostel and even relax in hot springs.
We wake up early and leave our hostel at 4:30 a.m. to start our journey to Machu Picchu. We have the option here to either board a bus for about 30 minutes to Machu Picchu or to walk 1.5 hours up to Machu Picchu. The early wake-up will be awarded with the first glimpse of Machu Picchu during sunrise. At arrival, we will have free time with beautiful sights on the Machu Picchu ruins. After the free time, due to new regulations, we are only allowed to enter Machu Picchu itself for a maximum duration of two hours. During this time, it is possible to take a guided tour. You can also climb up the Huaynapicchu Mountain, where one can experience spectacular views of all of Machu Picchu, the valleys and mountains that surround it or visit the Temple of the Moon or the impressive Inca Bridge. In the afternoon, we meet in the town of Aguas Calientes to take the train back to Ollantaytambo. Here we take the bus where after we will arrive in Cuzco at around 10:00 pm.
