Starting from Cusco, your journey to the Inca Trail begins with a scenic drive to Piscacucho (km 82). After a brief orientation, you’ll trek towards the ancient Llactapata ruins, enjoying the serene Andean landscapes. The trek continues to Llulluchapampa, with our team preparing your camp and a flavorful dinner amidst the tranquil high jungle. Early in the morning, we’ll start hiking up to the highest point of the Trail, 4,200 meters/13,780 feet above sea level. We will explore many Inca sites, such as Runkurakay, Sayacmarca, Phuyupatamarca, and Finally, Wiñayhuayna. We will finish the day by hiking to the Wiñaywayna (2600 m.a.s.l) archeological site, where we will camp near Machu Picchu. Day 2 - Total distance: 19 km (approx.) Estimated walking time: 8 – 9 hours Maximum altitude point: 4,200 m (approx.) Campsite altitude: 2,650 m (approx.)
We’ll wake up early for breakfast and then go to the last control point to register. Then we’ll start walking for 2 hours to get to Machu Picchu. We will arrive at the Inca city of Machu Picchu by the sun gate, and you will enjoy a 2-hour guided tour. After the tour of Machu Picchu, you will have free time to explore by yourself, and then you must go down to Aguas Calientes to take the train back to Ollantaytambo and then take the bus back to Cusco.
