 The Mountain of Salkantay (6264m.s.n.m): According to some authors the name of this mountain is a contraction that comes from Salqa = sullen or wild and Antay = produce celajes or
avalanches The name of Apu is usually put before it, which in Quechua language comes to mean sir, is thus defined to the great mountains that mean something sacred above the valleys. “Apu Salcantay”
The snowy Salcantay is one of the highest mountains in the Cusco region, without hesitation, it is the greatest in its splendid isolation.
From the Salkantay pass at 4,600 m.a.s.l. we will have wonderful views of this imposing and majestic Andean giant (If the weather does not prevent us)
The walk crosses the Salkantay pass at 4600m, descends into the cloud forest and passes the Inca ruins of Llactapata.
