Zagori translates to “behind the mountain area”, includes 46 villages, and numerous stone bridges. In this picturesque area, people used the local stone to build houses, churches and monasteries, cobbled streets and stone-built bridges create an architectural whole which is unique.

To the fountain beside the lake
Megalo and Mikro Papigo villages, separated in two districts, are built at the foot of Astraka Mountain. An impressive feature of the landscape is the five imposing “towers” of Astraka Mountain, which rise above the settlements. In Mikro Papigo there is the Information Center of Nature and Culture in Zagori and Taxiarches church
On the way from Megalo to Mikro Papigo there are small natural pools called Rogovos swimming pools.
Papigko bridge was built in 1923 in an idyllic location, with plane trees and crystalline waters of Voidomatis River, the coldest river in Europe (4-10o Celcius), which is in the core of the amazingly Vikos-Aoos National Park
How to describe this place and what photo to capture the beauty of this scenery? Oxya viewpoint lies in the center of the Vikos Gorge, a balcony with spectacular view of the majestic Vikos Gorge.
A unique masterpiece of nature includes layers of rock formations shaped like stone “pancakes”.
The village is built on the southwest side of the Vikos Gorge, at an altitude of 1060 meters, and there is access to a stunning view of the Gorge. The most famous singled arched stone bridge of Zagori area is located between the villages of Dilofo, Kipoi and Koukouli and is built in 1750
