Itinerary

    Day 1

    Cusco - Tombs of Ninamarca - Paucartambo - Pilcopata Lodge

    We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco early in the morning. Then, we will start our adventure to the Manu National Park, crossing interesting valleys and mountains of the Andes where we will visit pre-Inca tombs of Ninamarca and then picturesque rural communities such as the colonial town of Paucartambo for our breakfast (Not included). After, we will travel to Tres Cruces (The Ajanaco Viewpoint, located 3,800 m.a.s.l.), which it is the highest point of our trip, considering the entering to the Manu National Park. Here, we will learn about the great diversity of flora and fauna found within this Reserve. Then we will continue our journey, making a stop in the middle of the cloud forest to take a walk and observe the flora and fauna, such as hummingbirds, the Andean cock-of-the-rock, and howler monkeys. Later, we will enjoy a local picnic lunch along the road. After lunch, a travel to our lodge where you will stay in our lodge, and finally you will enjoy a local dinner.

    Pilcopata Lodge - Amazon´s Flora and Fauna - Night Walk for Caiman searching

    Manu National Park

    We will eat breakfast very early and then take a walk, during which we will be able to observe the fauna of the forest, such as monkeys and birds. Then, we will visit a coca plantation and a wildlife rescue center. Following this, we will travel to Port Atalaya, situated along the banks of the Alto Madre de Dios River at 500 m.a.s.l.. There we will begin our descent in boat to observe the enormous diversity of bird species, such as herons, vultures, cormorants, etc. until we arrive at Amazon Manu Lodge. There, we will bathe in the river and eat lunch. In the afternoon, we will visit a swamp where we can observe birds such as toucans, woodpeckers, macaws, etc. In the evening, before dinner, we will go for a night walk to observe the red eyes of caimans, which came out in the night, and maybe we will find some spiders, snakes, owls and so on... After this activity, we will enjoy a local dinner and will spend the night in our amazon lodge.

    Macaws and Parakeets clay lick - Ziplining - Machuwasi Lake - Night Walk

    Manu National Park

    Very early in the morning, we'll board our boat and head to the macaw and parakeet clay lick, a wall along the riverbank where different species of parrots gather each morning, including the blue-headed parrot, the white-eyed parakeet, and the chestnut-fronted macaw, among others. Here they feed on the mineral-rich clay, which helps them digest and eliminate toxins from the poisonous seeds they usually eat. Afterward, we'll return to our lodge for a delicious breakfast. Then, we'll take a 2.5- to 3-hour hike through the forest, and return to the lodge for lunch and then relax or swim in the river. After lunch, we'll have the option to do ziplining and canopy in the afternoon, then we'll visit Lake Machuwasi, where we'll explore by raft, observing birds like the prehistoric hoatzin and, with luck, other animals such as monkeys and capybaras. Before dinner, we'll take a night walk through the forest in search of insects and amphibians. Dinner, we'll spend the night at Amazon Lodge.

    Amazon Jungle Lodge - Atalaya - Cusco

    After a delicious breakfast, we can enjoy observing the hummingbirds around the lodge, and then we will board our boat back to Port Atalaya where our bus will await us to bring us back to Cusco. We will eat lunch along the route back to Cusco, and we will arrive around 5:30 - 6:30 pm.
