STOP IN NINAMARCA AND PAUCARTAMBO. Our first day begins early at 5:30 a.m., when your bilingual guide will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco to start an unforgettable journey to one of the most biodiverse places on Earth: Manu National Park. Along the way, you will enjoy breathtaking Andean landscapes, cloud forests, and the unique transition between ecosystems. Our first stop will be Ninamarca, an ancient archaeological site located on a mountain ridge. Here you will see the mysterious pre-Inca funerary towers (chullpas), built by ancient cultures to bury important leaders. Your guide will share fascinating stories about their history and Andean traditions. We will then continue for about 30 minutes to the charming colonial town of Paucartambo, known for its colorful balconies and traditional architecture. Here we will enjoy a local breakfast and take a short walk through its cobblestone streets and main square, discovering the culture and history of this beautiful Andean town.
ENTRANCE TO MANU NATIONAL PARK AND AJANACO VIEWPOINT. After leaving Paucartambo, we continue along a scenic mountain road to Ajanaco Pass (3,600 m), the official entrance to Manu National Park, one of the most biodiverse places on Earth and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Here we take a short 7-minute walk to a natural viewpoint with breathtaking views of the Tres Cruces mountains, the vast Andean cloud forest, and the beginning of the Amazon rainforest—a perfect place for photos and to appreciate the dramatic change in landscapes. From Ajanaco we descend into the mystical cloud forest, where constant mist creates a magical atmosphere. Along the trail we look for exotic birds such as the blue-banded toucanet, the golden-headed quetzal, and the crested quetzal. With some luck, we may also spot the elusive Andean bear, one of the rarest animals in the region. By mid-morning we reach the San Pedro area, where we enjoy a relaxing outdoor lunch surrounded by the sounds of the jungle.
Cock-of-the-Rock & Lodge Arrival After lunch, we head deeper into the forest to visit a special viewing area where you can observe the Andean cock-of-the-rock, Peru’s national bird. Famous for its bright red plumage and fascinating courtship display, this bird offers one of the most impressive wildlife spectacles in the Manu region. Along the way, keep your eyes open for woolly monkeys, colorful tropical birds, wild orchids, and many other species that make this forest a paradise for nature lovers. Around 5:00 p.m., we arrive at Bambú Lodge, a comfortable jungle lodge surrounded by lush rainforest where you can relax and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the Amazon. In the evening, you may join an optional night walk, an exciting chance to explore the jungle after dark. Equipped with flashlights and rubber boots, we search for fascinating nocturnal creatures such as tarantulas, poison frogs, snakes, armadillos, and night monkeys. A perfect start to an unforgettable adventure in Manu.
PICO DE HOZ VIEWPOINT, COCHA MACHUWASI IN MANU NATIONAL PARK. After a night surrounded by the sounds of the jungle, we begin the day with an early breakfast at the lodge. Today brings more adventure as we explore the incredible biodiversity of Manu National Park. We start with a walk along Amazon trails, where the sounds of parrots, macaws, and toucanets echo through the forest. Along the way we visit Pico de Hoz Viewpoint and Picaflor Viewpoint, excellent spots to observe wildlife such as hummingbirds, toucanets, and even the jungle condor. Our guide will also introduce you to fascinating medicinal plants, including the traditional coca leaf, used by local communities for centuries. Keep an eye out for playful squirrel monkeys and titi monkeys moving through the trees. Cocha Machuwasi, a peaceful lagoon surrounded by lush vegetation. Here we explore on a handmade wooden raft, quietly gliding across the water while searching for wildlife like the hoatzin, herons, cormorants.
LUNCH AND RETURN TO CUSCO. After this unforgettable experience in the heart of the jungle, we will enjoy a delicious outdoor lunch surrounded by the sounds and energy of nature. The peaceful atmosphere of the forest makes this the perfect moment to relax and take in the beauty of Manu. If you wish, you can even take a refreshing swim in the nearby river, a wonderful way to cool off and fully connect with the Amazon environment. At 2:30 p.m., we begin our return journey to Cusco, traveling back through the breathtaking landscapes where the Amazon rainforest gradually transforms into the mystical cloud forest and the majestic Andes Mountains.
