The tour begins in Cusco, with an early pick-up at your hotel to start one of the most impressive adventures: 5 Days Salkantay. After a two-hour drive, we will stop at the picturesque village of Mollepata, where you will enjoy a delicious traditional breakfast that will fill you with energy before continuing on to Soraypampa. From here, we will begin a hike of approximately 3 hours to the base camp (3,900 m / 12,800 ft), where a nutritious lunch with local products prepared by our team awaits us. In the afternoon, we will begin a 1.5-hour hike to the impressive Humantay Lake (4,220 m / 13,850 ft), a natural spectacle surrounded by snow-capped mountains and colors that change with the seasons. You will have free time to explore and capture the beauty of this magical place before returning to camp, where a comforting cup of hot coca tea and a dinner freshly prepared by our cooks will be waiting for you, perfect for ending your first day of trekking on a high note.
At approximately 5:00 am, we will wake up with a cup of coca tea and then enjoy breakfast with fantastic views of the mountains. We will then begin our 3-hour ascent to the highest point of the Salkantay Pass at 4620 m/15157. From there, we will walk to Wayrac Machaq for lunch around 1:00 pm. We will then continue to the high jungle where we will see large trees with their arms stretched out over the streams, all full of bromeliads and orchids. We will descend to the second campsite in Chaullay around 5:00 pm, where we will arrive to have a cup of coffee, hot chocolate, or tea, and then have dinner at approximately 7:00 pm.
Around 6:00 a.m., we will have breakfast and begin a 3-hour hike through the cloud forest. Observe the fantastic landscape of rivers and waterfalls; we will arrive at our lunch spot in Lucmabamba in 3 more hours. After lunch at approximately 1:00 pm, we will settle into the Lucmabamba camp, where you will have a zip line activity. After returning to the camp, you can enjoy activities on the plantations and coffee processing, and then our dinner will be at approximately 8:00 pm. Note: If you wish, you can visit the Cocalmayo hot springs, located 30 minutes from our camp (transportation and extra entrance fees not included). Please let us know in advance so we can organize this extra activity.
At approximately 5 a.m., we will wake up to an excellent breakfast and begin our 3-hour hike to Llactapata, where you will have an excellent view of the landscape and Machu Picchu. We will then walk downhill to Hidroeléctrica, where we will have lunch around 1:00 p.m. and then continue walking another 3 hours to Aguas Calientes. Tonight we will spend the night in a hostel and have dinner at a restaurant at approximately 7:00 pm.
Depending on your entrance time to the citadel of Machu Picchu, we will coordinate your departure time from the hotel and breakfast. Then we will ascend to the entrance of the citadel of Machu Picchu, where we will have a guided tour of the different sectors for about 2 hours, followed by a short time to enjoy the citadel before descending to Aguas Calientes. The time you spend in Machu Picchu will depend on your choice of transportation back to Cusco (train or bus, according to your reservation).
