The Mountain of Seven Colors, located in the province of Canchis, Cusco, is a must see destination for nature lovers and hiking enthusiasts. Begin your adventure at 4:00 a.m. with comfortable transportation from Cusco to the picturesque village of Pitumarca. Enjoy a typical Andean breakfast before embarking on the challenging 15 kilometer hike to the summit, 5,100 meters above sea level. Admire the beauty of Rainbow Mountain and the snow capped Ausangate peak as you immerse yourself in the rich local culture. Conclude your experience with a buffet lunch at a local restaurant before returning to Cusco.
Pick up at your hotel in Cusco. Please be ready in the lobby.
We will pick you up at your hotel in Cusco at 4:00 am. From there, we will begin our journey toward Rainbow Mountain, passing through picturesque Andean villages and enjoying stunning sunrise views over the Peruvian Andes. We continue driving along the Southern Peruvian Highlands, witnessing the first light of the day illuminating the mountains.
We will stop for breakfast at a local restaurant, where you can enjoy traditional Andean options that will give you the energy needed for the hike. This is also a good time to buy water or snacks for the trail. Drive to Llacto (4,630 m.a.s.l.) After breakfast, we continue for 40 more minutes until we reach Llacto, the starting point of the hike.
Hike from Llacto to Rainbow Mountain Viewpoint We begin the hike along a natural trail following a small creek, surrounded by deep valleys and towering mountains. Along the way, you’ll see the impressive Ausangate Glacier (6,372 m), the highest peak in the region. You’ll also observe local communities dressed in traditional Andean clothing, raising alpacas and llamas. Arrival at Rainbow Mountain (5,100 m.a.s.l.) Once at the summit, you will have time to rest, take photos, and enjoy the incredible natural colors of the mountain.
Descent, Lunch & Return to Cusco: We return along the same trail back to Llacto, where our transport will be waiting. Afterward, we head to a local restaurant for a traditional buffet lunch. Finally, we drive back to Cusco, arriving around 5:00 pm.
