We leave Cusco early in the morning, between 5:30 and 6:00 a.m., with pickup from the hotel in a comfortable bus. During the journey we visited the Chullpas de Ninamarca, located at 3750 m above sea level, and made a short stop in the picturesque folk village of Paucartambo, known for its colonial bridge. Then we ascend to Acjanaco, the highest point of the route at 4000 m above sea level, before starting the descent into the impressive cloud forest. This area stands out for its great biodiversity, with orchids, heliconias and ferns. We take a hike to observe the rooster of the rocks in its mating ritual, with the possibility of seeing trogons, quetzals, monkeys and the bespectacled bear. In the afternoon we arrive at our hostel in Pilcopata, 550 m above sea level, with private bathrooms and showers.

Upon arrival, we embark on a motorized boat that will take us along the Alto Madre de Dios River, where we can spot birds such as herons, fishermen martins and large vultures, highlighting the jungle condor (Sarcoramphus papa). With any luck, it is also possible to observe the jaguar (Panthera onca) on the banks of the river. We stop at natural hot springs to enjoy a medicinal and relaxing swim. If time permits, we visit the native community of Diamante to learn about its traditional homes and wild fruits. In the afternoon we arrived at Boca Manu (280 m above sea level), where we stayed in a hostel with showers and private bathrooms.

After enjoying breakfast, we enter the reserve area, where we will have greater opportunities to observe the extraordinary biodiversity of the Manu. We made a brief stop at the Limonal park ranger checkpoint. During boating we begin to understand why the Manu is so renowned for its wildlife. Along the banks of the river it is possible to observe groups of turtles, white alligators (Caiman crocodilus) and, hopefully, capybaras (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris), among other animals. In the afternoon we arrive at our hostel, located 250 m s. n. m. After settling in, we take a hike to the lake and visit a 30-meter observation tower, from where it is possible to spot river wolves. In the Manu, animals have never been persecuted by humans. We spent the night in the hostel, on platforms with double beds, mosquito nets, showers and bathrooms for comfort.

It is also very likely that we will see monkeys of different species; in fact, we will almost certainly observe at least 12 species present in the area. Later, we hiked the main tracks with the guide to learn about the workings and secrets of the tropical forest. In the afternoon, we returned to our camp in Cocha Otorongo, where we spent the night on roofed platforms. Beds are provided with mosquito nets, and we have showers and shared bathrooms available.
