After a convenient hotel pickup in Cusco or the Sacred Valley, you'll make the 30-minute journey depending on your location by private car to Poroy or Ollantaytambo station, where you'll be offered a welcome drink before boarding the train. While you sip your wine, you can admire Belmond Hiram Bingham's 1920s-style narrow gauge carriages decorated in blue and gold.
Once on board, make your way through the gleaming brass and polished wood interior to find your elegantly upholstered seat, explore the train's observation deck, bar car and two dining cars, where you'll enjoy a 3-course lunch. plates. Pair your meal with Peruvian, Argentine and Chilean wines, among other drinks, such as Cusqueña beer and pisco sour. Enjoy while the musicians play traditional Peruvian songs with guitars and percussion cajons. Pass through the cloud-shrouded archaeological site with a guide who will lead you through the main streets of this ancient city, past its ceremonial temples, sundial and delicately carved staircases. After the guided tour, take a walk around the grounds on your own and walk to Belmond Sanctuary Lodge for afternoon tea. Enjoy scones and sandwiches with tea or coffee or sample snacks and choose from a selection of wines.
Take the private bus service back to Aguas Calientes and settle into your seat aboard the Hiram Bingham. In the evening, head to the dining car for your 4-course gourmet dinner. You may want to join the musicians singing and dancing on the drive back to Cuzco. At the end, at the Poroy station, board our private transportation that will take you to your hotel in Cusco.
