Combine the famous Humantay Lake and the Salkantay Pass on this 2-day epic hike through the wild Andean mountains. The first day is to beat a scenic trail to beautiful Humantay Lake, drift off from a glass-toped igloo, and stargaze at the sky. The next day is to crown the pass as you hike to the foot of the imposing Salkantay Mountain at more than 4,600 meters. After the effort, tasty meals await you to round off the trip with spectacular views.
You'll set off this adventure with a 2-hour drive out of Cusco. The first stop is at the village of Mollepata for breakfast and then to Challacancha, the hike's starting point. You'll spend the morning walking on a scenic trail alongside a canyon valley with the first glimpses of Humantay Peak until the Sky Camp. Here, you'll indulge in lunch and settle in your igloo. Later, we'll tackle a steep path of 1 or 2 hours to Humantay Lake, which will be rewarded with the spectacular glacier backdrop. You'll have time to enjoy the lake views from different angles and snap some images before returning to Soraypampa for dinner, star-gazing, and some well-rest.
Today's to wake up bright and early for breakfast before setting on the hike up the Trail of the 7 Snakes to the Salkantay Pass. Once you reach the peak, you'll have plenty of time to rest and soak up the astounding views of the snowy mountain peaks. You'll also learn intriguing facts about Salkantay Mountain and its relationship to the deep Andean cosmovision. The round-trip trail takes about 6 hours. Then, you'll descend for lunch at the Sky Camp before boarding our transport. Enjoy the last scenic views out of the window as we drive you back to your accommodation in Cusco.
