It is known in both ways "Rainbow Mountain " or "Montaña de 7 colores Vinicunca", the original name comes from two Quechua voices "Wini rumi" Black stone "Kunka" neck; Black stone due to the black stones that abound in the area, and neck by the narrow hill that resembles a neck.

The study by the Office of Cultural Landscape and Muñoz details how each strip is composed according to its color:
Pink: Combination of red clays, mudstones (muds) and sands.
White: sandstone (quartz sand) and limestone.
Purple or lavender: marl (mixture of clay and calcium carbonate) and silicates.
Red: argillites and clays.
Green: clays rich in ferro magnesium (a mixture of iron and magnesium) and copper oxide.
Yellowish brown, mustard or golden brown: limonites, calcareous sandstones rich in sulfide minerals (combined with sulfur).

    We head to the town of Cusipata, the trip will last approximately 2 hours. Upon arrival we will enjoy a delicious breakfast.

    At 4:30 to 5:00 a.m., our staff will pick you up at your hotel to board the tourist bus.

    Vinicunca Mountain

    Then we will continue our trip to the Rainbow mountain - Vinincunca, where we will begin our hike of approximately one hour and thirty minutes to reach the highest peak of the Montaña de Colores at 5,000 meters above sea level Then we will continue our trip to the Rainbow mountain - Vinincunca, where we will begin our hike of approximately one hour and thirty minutes to reach the highest peak of the Montaña de Colores at 5,000 meters above sea level. When arriving to the highest part, we will have a panoramic view of all the landscape that surrounds the Mountain of Colors flora, fauna, Peak, Mountains, Snowy; we will be able to observe the Imposing Ausangate Snowy. After enjoying the beautiful view, we will descend to the lower part where we board our bus back to Cusco.
