We'll pick you up from your hotel.
Alpaca Expeditions team will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 4:20 am and take you to the Porters' House in Ollantaytambo, where our trekking chef will have breakfast ready for you. After that, we will drive 1-hour more to the trailhead located at Piscacucho or Km 82. Upon arrival at Kilometer 82, you will have some time to organize and get ready for the hike. We will start our journey along the ancient path of the Incas. We will hike to Llactapata, our first Inca site. From here we will hike for another 2 hours until our lunch spot. Our team of porters and trekking chefs will have the campsite ready for you to enjoy a hot lunch. All the meals will be cooked at the spot and you will have the chance to refill your camel bags with safe drinkable water. After a rest, you will continue for about 2 hours until getting to Ayapata. Our campsite to spend the night. Dinner will be served here and you will enjoy the open sky and the silence before resting.
After a well-deserved breakfast, we will start with a 4-hour ascent toward the highest point of the Inca Trail: the Dead Woman’s Pass or Warmi Wañusqa (4215 meters/13829 feet). Admire the whole trail from the highest point to the get down towards the Pacaymayu River. Enjoying amazing views and then head down towards our lunch spot. After a rest, start the ascent towards the second pass, Runccuracay Pass. Once here, you will be able to enjoy the archaeological site and also the privileged views of two beautiful waterfalls. The hike down will be short and easy. We will go towards Chaquicocha or Dry Lake where our campsite is. You will enjoy a happy hour provided by our trekking chef to then enjoy a great diner. This is the hardest day and you will be rewarded for accomplishing it.
Our last day of hiking. We will have amazing views of the Salkantay snowy peak and also from the Vilcabamba Mountain. We will start our last ascent towards Phuyupatamarka (3600 meters) from this place we can witness the Urubamba River and also have a glance of Machu Picchu from a distance. A 3-hour walk down will be needed to reach our last campsite. On the way we will discover beautiful sites such as Phuyupatamarka (Town in the Clouds) and Intipata (Terraces of the Sun). Our lunch will be served at the last campsite. Once you have eaten and rested, we will continue and will go to the biggest site in the Inca Trail, the beautiful Wiñay Wayna (Forever young) site. This day is the easiest day of the Inca Trail and it’s in order to save energy to the last day, Machu Picchu.
After an early breakfast, say good-bye to the team and start your way towards Machu Picchu. We will hike for about 2 hours until we get to the Sungate (Intipunku). This site will provide a different view from Machu Picchu. Take some amazing photos and then make your way towards the ancient site. At entry, your guide will provide a full guided tour all along the great Machu Picchu Citadel. The guided tour will last for about 2 hours. If you have purchased Huayna Picchu tickets ($75 each, need to book in advance) you will have an extra hike after the guided tour. After the tour, your guide will wait for you at Aguas Calientes. After lunch, you will go to the train station to catch on your train back to Ollantaytambo, where our driver will pick you up and drive you back to Cusco and drop you off at your hotel.
