Early in the morning, pick up to head to Ollantaytambo, the train station, for our journey to Km 104. The scenic train ride will take us through the breathtaking Andean mountains before arriving at Km 104, the checkpoint; from there we will begin our trek on the short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, exploring through beautiful landscapes and visiting the ancient ruins of Cachabamba and Wiñaywayna, where we will enjoy our lunch and continue our hike towards the Sun Gate for our first glimpse of Machu Picchu as the sun sets over the iconic ruins. We will arrive at 3 p.m., approximately to iconic Machu Picchu, where we will have a guided tour of the ancient Incan citadel, learning about its history and significance, before having some free time to explore on our own. After our visit, we will take a bus down to Aguas Calientes, where we will spend the night before returning to Cusco the next day.
We will enjoy our breakfast early in the morning at our hotel in Aguas Calientes before heading back to Machu Picchu for a second visit, taking in the breathtaking sunrise over the ruins. Our guide will lead us on a more in-depth exploration of the site, sharing additional insights and stories about this incredible UNESCO World Heritage Site and answering any questions we may have. After our tour, we will have some free time to further explore Machu Picchu on our own before taking the bus back down to Aguas Calientes for lunch and then returning to Cusco in the evening. The train ride back to Ollantaytambo takes 2 hours , offering us a chance to relax and take in the stunning views of the Andean mountains along the way. Once we arrive in Ollantaytambo, we will transfer to a private vehicle for the remaining journey back to Cusco, where we can reflect on our unforgettable experience at Machu Picchu.
