Alpamayo, cataloged as the most beautiful mountain in the world due to its peculiar pyramidal appearance, won a photography contest in the world survey of scenic beauty carried out in München – Germany, in 1966.

The Nevado Alpamayo with a height of 5,947 meters above sea level belongs to the beautiful Cordillera Blanca of the Peruvian Andes and is part of the Nevado Santa Cruz massif, consequently it is the most attractive for professional climbers who want to climb it year after year.

Itinerary

Duration: 6 days (approximately)
    Day 1

    Day 1: Huaraz – Caraz – Cashapampa – Llamacoral

    We will leave from Huaraz at 07 am. We will follow the route north of the Callejón de Huaylas until we reach Caraz, which is 2,200 m high.

    The next stop will be in Cashapampa, at 2900 m high.

    We will spend the first night at Camp Llamacoral, at 3760 m high.

  • Day 2

    Day 2: Llamacoral Camp – Base Camp

    We will have breakfast at 08:00. We will begin a 5-hour trek through the ravine, visiting the Jatuncocha Lagoon.

    Then we will go up a zigzagging path to the Quebrada Arhuaycocha. From there we will go to the Alpamayo Base Camp, at 4300 m high. Dinner and rest.

    Day 3: Base Camp – Camp One

    Breakfast at 06:00 to begin the 8 hours of ascent. Then, we will walk to Camp Morrena, at 4900 m high. From this place we will enter the glacier, where we will have to use climbing tools to reach Camp One of Alpamayo.

    At the Collado we will set up camp to observe the west wall of Alpamayo, have dinner and rest.

    Day 4: Camp One – Summit – Camp One

    The day begins at 01:00, preparing the equipment. We will begin the climb, approaching the wall and crossing the rimaya.

    We will advance along the wall, following the French straight line of 500 m and 70 and 80° near the top until we reach the pyramidal summit of Alpamayo, at 5947 m high. From there we will have spectacular views of lagoons and snow-capped mountains.

    After having enjoyed the landscape and having recovered some energy, we will rappel down the wall to return to Camp One. Dinner and rest after the 14 hours of activity of the day.

    Day 5: Camp One – Base Camp

    Breakfast. We will continue the descent with rappelling and walking for 6 hours to the Alpamayo Base Camp. Here we can rest and have dinner.

    Day 6: Base Camp – Cashapampa – Huaraz

    Breakfast. We will walk through the Arhuaycocha Valley, descending through the Santa Cruz ravine to Cashapampa for 7 hours. From here the trip will be by bus to Huaraz.
