Our inca trail to machu picchu 4 days begins very early from the city of Cusco, our transport takes us to the Ollantaytambo sector where we have free time to have a calm breakfast and then proceed to the Piscacucho sector (Km 82) where we meet with our entire support team (porters and cook). After a brief explanation our experience begins, first we will visit a historical Inca control place called Llactapata (2650 masl / 8692 feet), this is strategically located for access to Machu Picchu. At the end of the visit we begin a new walk towards our lunch point, at the end we continue our trip towards our first camp, Wayllabamba (3000 masl / 9840 feet), where our camping team is waiting for us ready so we can relax as much as possible. Here we will also find small shops where we can buy drinks, snacks or essential items for the trip. At night we will share a dinner space with our team while our guide gives us information about the second day.
We enjoy a magnificent view of the valley in its early hours and our team offers us a cup of coca tea that helps us wake up with great spirits, then we complement this by delighting ourselves with a breakfast that full of energy since our day will be very demanding. The first section is the hardest, at a firm and constant pace we begin with the ascent to the highest point of the entire experience, the Warmiwañusca pass (4,200 masl / 13,776 feet), upon arrival we will have an impressive view of the entire valley, we see what the road we have traveled is like and also the one that awaits us, so after a well-deserved rest and the photos for Instagram we continue our journey, now it is a descent to the valley floor so that we can reach our next camp, which is Pacaymayo (3,500 masl / 11,482 feet), upon arrival the team has already installed our equipment and is preparing our lunch, we spend the afternoon with our guide who shows us the incredible flora and fauna of the place.
After enjoying the breakfast that our support team prepares for us, we keep goinong on our 4 – day inca trail to machu picchu. For an average of 2 hours we will first ascend to the archaeological center of Runkurakay (3800 masl / 12,470 feet), after an explanation and tour with our guide we begin the ascent to the highest part, which is the pass, and continue to see other places as Sayacmarca (3580 masl / 11 472 feet). We will see how on the way the landscapes go deeper and deeper into the jungle, so the panorama changes. In the afternoon we arrive at the Phuyupatamarca sector (3,600 masl / 11,930 feet) where we will have a panoramic view of the Urubamba Valley, which is the gateway to Machu Picchu. Then our descent begins to our last camping point, which is Wiñaywayna (2650 masl / 8692 feet), our team that arrived previously to set up our camp and awaits us with a refreshing hot mate to later have dinner and spend the night.
We start the day with a delicious breakfast, before leaving the camp we will have an emotional moment as our support team that accompanied us during the tour says goodbye to us, we continue alone with the guide for a period of 2 hours on average until we reach the Intipunku or Sungate (2745 masl / 9005 feet), from here we already have a panoramic view of the beautiful citadel of Machu Picchu (2430 masl / 7972 feet). After a brief period of time, we begin our descent along a path to reach Machu Picchu and be able to visit it, knowing the main sites that make it up. At the end of our tour we went to the main control gate where we boarded a tourist bus to get to Aguas Calientes (2040 masl / 6692 feet). After enjoying some free time to have lunch, we go to the train station to board one and return to Ollantaytambo, there we will use the line of the same railway company and finally return to Cusco where we finish our inca trail 4 day hike.
