Please wait us in the lobby of your hotel .The Plaza de Armas of Cusco is a central location accessible to any traveler who wishes to stay in surrounding areas. We will also take advantage of giving a talk prior to the tour.
This exciting adventure begins very early in the morning. We will pick you up from your hotel at 4:00 a.m. and take you in our private transportation for two hours to Pitumarca. Then, we will continue for another hour and a half until we reach Quesiuno, the starting point of the hike.
Quesiuno - Pitumarca While we finish getting ready to start the tour, our chef will prepare a delicious and nutritious breakfast that will give you all the energy you need to take on the challenge that awaits you. Before starting the hike, you will need to pay close attention to the guide, who will share all the details of the itinerary with you and give you safety tips that will be useful for the next two days. We will begin this impressive and little-known hike through a green valley from where you can see the majestic Ausangate glacier, the highest peak in the entire Cusco region, in the distance. Along the way, you will see several rural communities and discover the deep connection with nature that characterizes Andean culture. Hundreds of alpacas and llamas will watch you at every step of the trail.
Abra Puka - Ocongate: We will continue our journey to the first pass known as Abra Puka (4,870 m / 15,978 ft). From there, you will enjoy breathtaking scenery where you will see the crystal clear waters of Lake Pukaqocha and the gigantic Ausangate glacier right in front of you. You will be impressed. You will see how the waters of the lagoon originate from the snow of this sacred glacier. This is a true spectacle that will awaken your senses and you will experience a deep energy within yourself. Don't forget to bring your camera, there are many opportunities to take spectacular photographs along the way.
Anantapata - Ocongate: After a short break, we will continue for another hour and a half of descent to Anantapata, where we will stop for lunch.
Abra Warmisaya - Ocongate: Once we have recharged our batteries, we will climb for two hours until we reach the highest point of the day, Abra Warmisaya (4,985 m / 16,355 ft). From there, you will be able to see for the first time, in the distance, the spectacular colors and dreamlike image of the Rainbow Mountain known as Vinicunca.
Laguna Surineqocha - Ocongate: We will descend for about 45 minutes until we reach our camp located next to the Surineqocha lagoon. We will welcome you with our happy hour, which includes snacks and hot drinks to satisfy your hunger. Later, you will enjoy a delicious dinner before a well-deserved night's rest.
Montaña Vinicunca - Pitumarca: You will start the day at 4:00 a.m. with a hearty breakfast before heading to Rainbow Mountain, arriving before other tour groups to avoid crowds. You will have time to enjoy the scenery, take photos, and continue on to Red Valley, with breathtaking views and a unique environment. Then you will climb for two hours to the Rainbow Mountain viewpoint (5,100 m), from where you can explore on your own and admire 360° panoramic views, including the Ausangate glacier and other snow-capped mountains. Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca or Winikunka) is located between the districts of Cusipata and Pitumarca, in the Cusco region.
In the morning, the trail becomes challenging, leading to the highest point on the Inca Trail, Dead Woman’s Pass, at 4,215 meters. By noon, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of the Andean peaks.
The descent begins post-lunch, leading you towards Pacaymayo. This stretch of the journey is kinder on the legs but offers equally rewarding views. By 5:00 PM, we will find ourselves setting up camp in Pacaymayo. We will be reflecting on the day’s accomplishments. We’ll rejuvenate for the adventures the next day on the Machu Picchu Inca Trail promises.
Valle Rojo - Pitumarca - Cusco: After visiting Rainbow Mountain, you will head to the impressive Red Valley (5,050 m), a rarely visited place that seems like another planet, with unique landscapes and great tranquility. After a 30-minute walk, you will reach a viewpoint with spectacular views. You will then descend for two hours, passing through Andean communities and herds of llamas, and with luck you will see vicuñas. At the end, you will enjoy a final lunch before returning by private transport to your accommodation in Cusco.
