It's a simple and well-organized way to get to know the Amazon rainforest in a short time. You don't need to be an expert or have days off: we take care of everything. You walk along trails surrounded by nature, see animals in their habitat, and spend the night in a comfortable lodge in the middle of the jungle. It's a real experience, unhurried and uncomplicated.
The day before the tour begins, we hold a brief 30-minute briefing session, where we provide travelers with all the relevant information about the itinerary, offer important recommendations, and answer any questions they may have so that they feel prepared and confident before the experience.
We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco around 5:00 a.m. to begin our journey. Our first stop will be the pre-Inca cemetery of Ninamarca. From there, we will travel through the mountains until we reach Tres Cruces, the highest point and main entrance to Manu National Park. This area is one of the most protected natural regions in South America.
We will continue into the cloud forest and spend about three hours exploring it. Along the way, we will be able to observe Peru's national bird, the cock-of-the-rock, and the large choro monkey. We will also pass by bromeliads and orchids, and with luck, animals such as the Andean bear, the blue-banded tucan, the golden-headed quetzal, and the crested quetzal.
At the end of the afternoon, we will arrive at Amazon Pona Lodge. After settling in, we will have an optional night walk through the jungle, where we can observe tarantulas, frogs, snakes, night monkeys, boas, and more. Rubber boots will be provided for safety.
After an early breakfast, we will explore the jungle trails surrounding the lodge. Along the way, you will hear the songs of macaws, woodpeckers, toucans, and parrots. We will learn about local medicinal plants and look for different species of monkeys, such as squirrel monkeys, capuchins, marmosets, and howlers.
We will visit Lake Machuwasi and sail on a small raft to observe wildlife such as the prehistoric hoatzin, cormorants, herons, and kingfishers.
After lunch and a short break, we will begin the journey back to Cusco and drop you off at your hotel, marking the end of our 2-day tour of the Manu Biosphere Reserve.
