Mangrove to Lagoon Kayak and Paddleboard Adventure

Vai Villas Samoa, an authentic and rich blend of sustainability, ecology, culture, marine exercise and fun; the launching point for our waterborne experience. Kayak or paddleboard through the overhanging mangroves, twisting and turning your way 1.5km to the beach on the lagoon of Safata Bay. Break here for a dip. Then paddle across to shallow open waters of the Safata Bay lagoon to an otherwise inaccessible, isolated and pristine beach at the end of the peninsula opposite for lunch. Return through the mangroves to Vai Villa Lodge.

    8:00am Pick up at central Apia accommodation and off southwest across the agriculturally rich hinterland of Aleisa to Upolu’s southwest coast heading for Vai Villas.

    8:50am VAI VILLAS LODGE is an eco-tourism treasure in the heart of Lotofaga Village. Here we familiarize ourselves with the kayaks, paddleboards, paddles, lifejackets and repack our edibles for the journey ahead. At Vai Villas there are many species of native birds that reside within the resort grounds. Step out of the villa verandah and you will spot plenty of fish, ducks, eels, dragon horses swimming in the spring fed waters. Fresh water spring and tidal estuary, mangroves, Jurassic type environment

    10:45am SWIM in SAFATA BAY momentarily cast the kayaks aside and plunge into the waters of this beautiful and serene bay. Your guide will narrate the legend of how the bay was formed. 11:00am PADDLE ACROSS SAFATA LAGOON 400 meters to the beach at the end of this isolated, narrow uninhabited peninsula. There may even be some turtles on the way. 11:20am SAFATA BAY PENINSULA BEACH What a spot for a delicious lunch. 11:50am PENINSULA EXPLORATION of the beautiful waters on both the lagoon and seaward sides at the end of the peninsula. There may even be turtles and other marine life here. 1:00pm PADDLE BACK ACROSS THE LAGOON to our mangrove estuary beach 1:25pm MANGROVE ESTUARY perhaps a rest and swim before the final paddle through the mangroves

    Papapapaitai Falls

    3:15pm DEPART FOR APIA Stop at Papapapaitai Falls viewing platform along the way. These spectacular falls are the highest in Upolu at 110 metres.
