We will embark on a scenic drive to Piskacucho (Km 82), the starting point of our trek, arriving around 8:00 AM. From here, we start the trail towards Llactapata, where you'll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the surrounding Andean landscape.
After soaking in the stunning vistas at Llactapata, we continue our hike, enjoying the serenity of the trail as we head towards our lunch spot. The hike will take approximately two hours, passing through the charming village of Huayllabamba. This village offers a glimpse into the traditional life of the local Quechua people, surrounded by lush green valleys and towering peaks.
By late afternoon, we will reach Ayapata, our campsite for the night, nestled in the heart of the mountains. Arriving around 5:00 PM, you'll have time to settle into your camp and unwind. As the day comes to a close, savor a delicious dinner prepared by our expert trekking chefs, and relax under the vast Andean sky, preparing for the adventures of the following day.
Start your day with a hearty breakfast in Ayapata at 6:00 AM, fueling up for one of the most challenging yet rewarding sections of the trek. Today, we will conquer the infamous Dead Woman’s Pass, the highest point of the Inca Trail at an impressive 4,215 meters (13,829 feet). As we ascend, you’ll be treated to panoramic views that stretch across the rugged Andes, making every step worthwhile.
Upon reaching the summit, take a moment to breathe in the crisp mountain air and admire the stunning surroundings before beginning our descent into the lush Pacaymayo Valley. Here, we will pause for a well-deserved lunch, recharging for the remainder of the day’s journey.
After lunch, our adventure continues with another ascent towards the second pass of the trail. As we make our way over the pass, the ancient ruins of Runkuracay will come into view, offering a fascinating glimpse into the Incan civilization’s past. After exploring this remarkable site, we will press on through the stunning Andean landscapes.
Our day concludes at the Chaquicocha campsite, where you can rest and reflect on the day's achievements. Enjoy a well-earned dinner prepared by our dedicated team, as you unwind beneath the star-studded sky, preparing for the next day's adventures.
We begin our third day with a nourishing breakfast at 6:30 AM, preparing to enter the enchanting jungle. This section of the trail is less strenuous but no less captivating as we descend into the cloud forests. These lush forests contrast beautifully with the towering peaks of the Vilcabamba mountain range, creating a stunning backdrop as we make our way through this unique environment.
As we continue our journey, we’ll reach Phuyupatamarca, one of the most well-preserved archaeological sites along the Inca Trail. Known as the "Town Above the Clouds," Phuyupatamarca offers our first glimpse of Machu Picchu in the distance. Here, we will pause to explore the historic ruins and soak in the panoramic views of the Andes and the surrounding valleys.
Our descent continues as we journey towards Wiñay Wayna, a magnificent Inca site that boasts impressive agricultural terraces and intricate stonework. Upon arrival, we will take a short tour of the site, marveling at its beauty and historical significance. Afterward, we’ll head to our final campsite, where you can relax and prepare for the thrilling experience of reaching Machu Picchu on the following day.
On our final day, we will wake up bright and early at 4:00 AM for a quick breakfast before embarking on the last leg of our journey. Our goal is to reach the iconic Sun Gate (Inti Punku) just in time to witness the breathtaking sunrise over Machu Picchu. As we pass through the Sun Gate, you’ll catch your first magical glimpse of the ancient citadel, bathed in the soft morning light – a moment that makes all the efforts of the trail truly worthwhile.
Once we arrive at Machu Picchu, we'll begin our in-depth guided tour of the site, which will last approximately two hours. Our knowledgeable guide will share the rich history and fascinating stories of the Incan Empire, while you explore the terraces, temples, and plazas of this UNESCO World Heritage site.
After immersing ourselves in the awe-inspiring beauty of Machu Picchu, we will descend to Aguas Calientes, where a well-deserved lunch awaits. Take this opportunity to relax and reflect on the incredible journey you’ve completed.
Following lunch, we’ll bid farewell to this charming town as we board the train back to Ollantaytambo. From there, a private transfer will take us back to Cusco, where we are expected to arrive around 7:00 PM, concluding an unforgettable adventure.
