Yosemite Nights 90 Minute Stargazing and Stories Tour

1 hour 30 minutes (approximately)
Offered in: English

See a Yosemite most visitors never experience. Leave the crowds and watch the valley transform as thousands of stars appear, constellations sharpen into view, and you may even see the hazy band of the Milky Way stretching overhead. The granite walls of El Capitan and Half Dome fade into dark silhouettes framing the night sky, while bright planets and star clusters reveal themselves with a laser pointer and your guide’s stories.

This experience is designed for beginners, not astronomy experts. We follow an easy route at a relaxed pace, stop often to look up, and weave together constellation myths, Yosemite history, and simple tips for seeing more at night. You might catch a shooting star or satellite drifting by and feel the cool air dropping off the cliffs as the valley quiets down. You won’t just check “stargazing” off your list – you’ll go home with a “remember when we saw the real night sky in Yosemite?” story your group talks about for years.

    Yosemite Valley

On a clear, moonless night in Yosemite Valley, the sky turns on in a way most people have never seen before. You’ll see far more stars than you’re used to in the city, with big constellations like Orion and the Big Dipper standing out clearly, and in the right season a hazy band of the Milky Way stretching across the sky. The granite walls of El Capitan and Half Dome become dark silhouettes framing the stars, while bright planets, the Pleiades, and even the faint Andromeda Galaxy appear with a little guidance and a laser pointer. You’ll likely catch a few shooting stars or satellites drifting by, all while the valley itself quiets down: cool air dropping off the cliffs, the river in the background, and the feeling that almost everyone else has gone to bed and left this version of Yosemite just for you.
