From there, we’ll begin our journey towards Pukarumi, a charming village nestled in the heart of the majestic Ausangate Mountain. Along the way, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of the Andean landscapes, passing through traditional villages and scenic valleys before reaching our starting point.
You’ll enjoy stunning views during the three-hour drive. Upon arrival, a delicious breakfast, prepared by a high-mountain chef, will be ready. You’ll also meet the trekking team, including cooks and muleteers. After breakfast, we’ll begin an upward hike toward the northeastern part of Ausangate Mountain, passing cultivated fields and traditional homes in the Ausangate community. After three hours, we’ll reach the Ausangate viewpoint, offering panoramic views of the entire glacial mountain range. Then, we’ll hike for two more hours to the Upis camp at 4,400 meters. Upon arrival, we’ll enjoy tea before dinner. At night, we’ll sleep under a blanket of stars, surrounded by the mystique of Ausangate.
We’ll start the day by bringing you a hot drink—either coca tea or coffee—right to your tent, giving you the perfect boost to begin your day. Afterward, enjoy a nourishing breakfast, either outdoors or in the dining tent, surrounded by the grandeur of the high mountains. Our trek begins with a two-and-a-half-hour hike through a charming Andean valley, leading to the Arapa Pass at 4,800 meters (15,748 feet). At the summit, you'll be rewarded with sweeping views of the surrounding mountain range. You may even spot an Andean condor soaring above. Our guide will share fascinating insights about the region’s ecosystem. Next, we’ll descend to the beautiful Yanacocha Lagoon (Black Lagoon), where we’ll stop for a delicious lunch. Afterward, we’ll continue to our camp at Hatun Pukaqocha (4,500 m / 14,764 feet). Later, we’ll explore the lagoons, observe llamas and alpacas, and learn about glacial retreat. Afterward, we’ll enjoy afternoon tea and a hearty dinner before resting for the night.
Waking up with coca tea or coffee in the heart of the Andes is a revitalizing experience enjoyed by the ancient Incas for centuries, giving you an energy boost to start the day. After breakfast, we’ll begin a physically demanding hike toward Abra Pukaqocha Pass at 4,870 m (15,978 ft). Along the way, you’ll be captivated by glaciers, green valleys, and Apu Ausangate with its turquoise lagoons. At the summit, you’ll appreciate Apu Ausangate, its cultural significance, the effects of climate change, and red mountains. After photos, we’ll descend for an hour and a half to Anantapata at 4,750 m (15,584 ft) for lunch. After lunch, we’ll continue with a two-hour ascent to Abra Warmisaya at 4,895 m (16,060 ft), where you’ll enjoy panoramic views of Ananta Mountain, green valleys, red mountains, and Rainbow Mountain. We’ll then descend for an hour to Surinaqocha Lagoon, our campsite for the night. After dinner, we’ll prepare for the final day of this exciting excursion.
Our final day of the 4-day trek begins early to reach the famous Rainbow Mountain before the one-day tours from Cusco. After a nourishing breakfast, we’ll set off on a gradual ascent, passing through stunning Andean landscapes, lagoons, and views of mineral-colored mountains and snow-covered Ausangate peaks. The hike to Rainbow Mountain takes about two hours at a steady pace. Upon arrival, you’ll have time to explore and marvel at the vibrant colors of the Vilcanota range. Our guide will share insights into the geological formations and the cultural significance of the mountain for local communities. After taking final photos, we’ll descend to the transport station for lunch and bid farewell to our trekking team (cooks and muleteers). Then, we’ll take our private transport back to Cusco.
