We leave Cusco early in the morning (5:00-6:00 am is the usual pick-up time at the hotel) and drive through the Andes Mountains and rural communities. Visit the pre-Incan tombs of the Lupaca culture and stop in Paucartambo, a beautiful colonial town. Visit the city museum and have lunch in the cloud forest. Continue your descent through the cloud forest, an area rich in endemic species such as the spectacled bear and the cock-of-the-rock, Peru's national bird. See orchids, bromeliads, and ferns. Observe the spectacular nature along the way until you reach Pilcopata Lodge for dinner and overnight.
