Tour Itinerary – Lake Skadar Cruise.me Stop 1 – Virpazar: Gateway to Lake Skadar Your journey begins in the charming lakeside village of Virpazar, the main gateway to Lake Skadar National Park. Surrounded by mountains, vineyards, and traditional stone houses, this small fishing town offers an authentic introduction to Montenegro’s natural beauty and culture. After meeting your local skipper at the agreed meeting point, you’ll receive a short welcome and overview of the tour before boarding the boat. As we depart from the harbor, the peaceful atmosphere of the lake immediately sets the tone for the experience ahead.
Stop 2 – River Channel & Mountain Views Step aboard our traditional wooden boat and relax as we cruise through the narrow river channel leading into the open lake. Lush vegetation and floating water lilies surround us, creating a tranquil and picturesque start to the journey. As we emerge onto the wider waters, admire the dramatic mountain landscapes in the distance, including the Albanian Alps (Prokletije) and the distinctive Vranjina Island rising from the lake.
Stop 3 – Lesendro Fortress & Bird Habitat Passing beneath the Tanki Rt bridge, we enter an area covered with floating water chestnuts — one of the lake’s most unique natural features. Soon, the historic Lesendro Fortress appears, standing proudly on the lake’s edge. Built in the 18th century and later reinforced during the rule of Petar II Petrović-Njegoš, this former defensive stronghold holds great historical importance. Today, the surrounding wetlands form a protected bird habitat where you may spot cormorants, herons, and other native species.
Stop 4 – Kamenik & Water Lily Fields Continuing deeper into untouched nature, we approach the peaceful area of Kamenik, often called Montenegro’s “Amazon” due to its dense vegetation and wild islands. Here, vast fields of white and yellow water lilies spread across the water’s surface, creating one of the most photogenic landscapes on Lake Skadar. This serene setting is perfect for relaxing and capturing unforgettable photos.
Stop 5 – Swimming & Relaxing Return At a carefully selected open-water location, you’ll have the opportunity to swim in the clear waters of Lake Skadar, surrounded by breathtaking mountain views and complete tranquility. Afterward, we begin our gentle cruise back to Virpazar. As you relax on board, enjoy a glass of local wine while taking in the final panoramic views of the lake. The calm atmosphere and natural beauty provide the perfect ending to your unforgettable experience.
