Your Amazon adventure begins early in Cusco as we travel by private transportation through the Andes toward the Manu Biosphere Reserve. Along the route, we stop at the pre-Inca funerary towers of Ninamarca and the picturesque colonial town of Paucartambo before descending into the cloud forest. This region is famous for its lush vegetation, orchids, bromeliads, tree ferns, and incredible birdlife. One of the highlights is visiting the Cock-of-the-rock lek, where Peru’s national bird performs its spectacular mating dance. During wildlife observation walks, travelers may spot: • Toucans • Quetzals • Trogons • Colorful tanagers • Hummingbirds • Monkeys • Andean birds of prey By late afternoon, we arrive at Bamboo Manu Eco Lodge, surrounded by tropical rainforest and rich biodiversity.
After breakfast, we continue deeper into the Amazon lowlands, passing through Pilcopata and arriving at the river port of Atalaya. Here we board our motorized river boat and navigate the Alto Madre de Dios River, where wildlife sightings are common along the riverbanks. Possible sightings include: • Capybaras • Herons • Kingfishers • Hoatzins • Monkeys • Tropical birds After arriving at Buena Vista Manu Lodge and enjoying lunch, we head to Machuwasi Lake for an afternoon exploration. Using a traditional wooden raft, we quietly navigate the lake while observing: • Caimans • Hoatzins • Horned screamers • Parrots • Wetland bird species In the evening, guests may join an optional night walk to discover nocturnal rainforest wildlife.
Before sunrise, we travel by boat to a parrot and macaw clay lick, one of the most fascinating wildlife spectacles in the Peruvian Amazon. Observe vibrant parrots and macaws gathering to feed on mineral-rich clay along the riverbank, including opportunities to spot the rare blue-headed macaw. After breakfast, we continue to visit an enormous ceiba tree, considered one of the giants of the Amazon rainforest and an important symbol of jungle ecology. Following lunch, enjoy a guided rainforest walk around the lodge trails for additional wildlife observation and rainforest interpretation. Later, we navigate back by river to Bamboo Manu Eco Lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
After breakfast, we explore the gardens and trails around Bamboo Manu Eco Lodge to learn about medicinal plants traditionally used in the Amazon, including the sacred coca plant. Guests also enjoy birdwatching opportunities around the lodge feeders, where numerous tropical bird species can often be observed at close range. Before departure, travelers participate in a symbolic reforestation activity as part of Bamboo Manu Eco Lodge’s commitment to sustainable tourism and rainforest conservation. After lunch, we begin our return journey to Cusco.
