This tour is a short trip, but full of adventures and activities within the Amazon jungle. The Manu National Park is one of the few areas with high biodiversity that exists in the world. During the 3-day excursion you will be able to explore the cloud forests, the Amazon plain, where it is possible to observe various species of birds, butterflies, mammals, insects, orchids and many medicinal plants. If you have planned to visit Machu Picchu and would also like to visit the Amazon jungle, Manu is a great option since it is close to Cusco.
We pick up all our passengers from their hotels and accommodations in the city of Cusco.
After pickup from your hotel in Cusco at 6:00 am; We head in our transport to the Lucre wetland, where you can observe some migratory birds. Afterwards we continue our trip enjoying the beautiful views of the mountains and valleys of Cusco.
This site is a pre-Inca archaeological center, where you can see the tombs made of stone and mud, where the Quechua and Lupaca people placed their mummies, currently they look empty, you can only see the enclosures.
Around 10 am approximately, you will arrive at the town of Paucartambo. There you will walk through the typical streets and squares that are from the colonial era, it is a small town in which time has not passed. You can still see the typical markets, where fruits, vegetables and foods are sold.
We officially arrive at the Manu National Park, this is the highest point of the trip, there our guide will provide you with an explanation about the different species that inhabit the Andean grasslands.
After having passed the Acjanacu pass, we descend along the paved road in the direction of the Pacchayoq waterfalls, we will make various stops, since this day you can observe different species of birds such as the cock-of-the-rock, golden-headed quetzal, and toucanets. , tanagers. There are also sectors of the forest where you can see woolly monkeys, capuchins, and squirrel monkeys.
At 5 pm, we will be arriving at our first day hostel, which is located in the town of Picopata, the climate is very tropical, since it is located at 500 masl. The accommodations are double rooms with private bathroom. At night we will have dinner prepared by our cook.
After having breakfast, we go to the hummingbird garden, where you can observe some of the 50 species of hummingbirds that the Manu National Park has. At 9:00 am, we arrive at the river port of Atayala where our motor boat awaits, which will take us to our second family lodge. At 12 pm we will have our lunch, and then we will go out to visit Machuwasi Lake, where you can ride on a wooden raft. In the afternoon we walk back to the Manu River, and cross the river in the boat. At night we will have a night walk that will last approximately 1 hour. There you can see Amazonian wildlife such as frogs, scorpions, and tarantulas. Overnight at the Lodge, with the typical sound of crickets and cicadas.
Today we get up very early to go see one of the most fascinating natural spectacles. The parrot and macaw clay lick, where different species of parrots, parakeets, and macaws come every morning to collect pieces of clay. Then we return to our hostel where we will have our breakfast. At 8:00 am we are returning by motor boat back to the port of Atalaya; and from there our minivan will pick us up. The ascent route will be again towards the San Pedro cloud forest. At 1:00 pm we will have our lunch in the town of Paucartambo, arriving in the city of Cusco at approximately 5:00 pm.
