We will pick you up from your hotel or the airport in Cusco at 5:30 AM. We'll drive along Manu Road, stopping briefly at Oropesa Bakery Town.
We'll then visit the Ninamarca site to explore the pre-Incan burials with a guided tour. Next, we'll head to Paucartambo Village, where we'll enjoy a delightful breakfast followed by a guided walk through the local market, main square, and colonial bridge
Upon crossing Acjanaco Pass at an elevation of 3550 meters (11,647 feet), the landscape undergoes a dramatic transformation from dry valleys to lush, wet valleys. The view looking down toward the lowlands is simply splendid and should not be missed. The journey takes you through the verdant and misty cloud forest, an environment surrounded by massive rocks and cascading waterfalls. This type of rainforest is among the most fragile and threatened, featuring a unique ecosystem filled with lichens and moss-carpeted soil. In this enchanting setting, birdwatching will be a primary focus. You will have the opportunity to observe a diverse array of bird species, including the brightly red Andean Cock-of-the-Rock, Peru's national bird. With a bit of luck, you may also encounter woolly monkeys, adding to the richness of your experience in this remarkable environment.
We will make a brief stop at the bustling local market in Pilcopata town, where you can immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere and observe the daily life of the locals. The market is a treasure trove of fresh produce (bananas, Papayas, pineapples), local crafts, and traditional goods, offering a glimpse into the rich culture of the area.
By mid-afternoon, we'll arrive at Guadalupe Lodge, a serene and comfortable retreat. After settling in, we'll explore the nearby canyon and caves to observe nocturnal creatures like bats, spiders, and scorpions. We'll also traverse the palm forest trail, looking for colorful macaws and playful monkeys. As night falls, we'll embark on a night walk to discover reptiles, spiders, and amphibians, experiencing the forest's lively nocturnal world.
This morning, we will awaken to the melodies of Amazonian birds. We will begin our day with a journey to Atalaya Port, where you can admire the myriad of colorful birds and the abundant wildlife. The drive will take us through tropical plantations of papayas and bananas. Upon arrival at Atalaya River’s deck, you will embark on a motorboat and navigate the crystalline waters of the Madre de Dios River.

After an hour of boating and a 40-minute hike, you will reach Machuhuasi Oxbow Lake, which features lush wetlands inhabited by diverse bird species and larger animals. Explore a network of trails for approximately three hours, with snacks provided by your guide. Lunch will be served on the motorboat or along the riverbanks, with the boat’s roof offering protection from sudden rain or intense sunshine. After a short rest, search for families of monkeys and toucans in the primary forest and visit the majestic giant Kapok tree.
On our return journey to the lodge, we will take a moment to visit the enchanting Hummingbird Garden. Here, for approximately 30 minutes, you will have the opportunity to observe these mesmerizing creatures up close as they flit and hover, displaying their iridescent feathers and captivating beauty. The garden is a tranquil haven, providing an intimate experience with these remarkable birds in their natural habitat. If time permits, and for those who are interested, we can also make a stop at the river for a refreshing swim. This optional activity offers a chance to cool off and unwind in the crystal-clear waters, surrounded by the serene and lush landscape of the Amazon. The river provides a perfect natural setting to relax and take in the sounds and sights of the rainforest.
Start your day with a morning walk before breakfast to explore the foothill forest, searching for Woolly and Capuchin monkeys. You may also encounter some iconic birds of the Amazon rainforest, such as macaws, toucans, and woodpeckers. The walk follows a loop route, allowing you to explore caves and canyons, where you can observe animals that dwell in darkness, such as spider scorpions and various species of bats (flashlights are required). Upon returning, a delicious breakfast will be ready for you. Afterward, pack up and begin the journey back to Cusco. The return trip offers more opportunities to spot wildlife and marvel at the impressive views of the cloud forest, with its waterfalls and cascades. Arrival in Cusco is expected around 4 PM.
